The Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Sati Shuwa, has donated 40 brand-new Zalfa motorcycles to security agencies and key stakeholders in the Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve service delivery.
The beneficiaries include the Special Task Force (STF), the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Vigilante Group, Operation Rainbow, as well as the Council’s Primary Health Care and Revenue Departments.
Traditional rulers, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), and all 17 electoral wards in the Local Government Area also received motorcycles.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Hon. Shuwa said the intervention was aimed at enhancing the mobility of security personnel, improving surveillance and intelligence gathering, and supporting ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across Riyom.
He commended the security agencies for their sacrifices and dedication in maintaining peace and order, assuring them of his administration’s continued support through the provision of logistics and welfare packages.
The Chairman urged the security operatives to intensify intelligence gathering and surveillance, particularly in vulnerable communities, and to ensure that criminal elements threatening the peace of the area are brought to justice.
Hon. Shuwa further assured residents that his administration remains committed to ensuring that no community within the Local Government Area is left exposed to security threats.
Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, described the donation as unprecedented in the history of the Local Government. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and called for sustained collaboration between government, security agencies, and citizens in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
Also speaking, the Liaison Officer to the Executive Governor of Plateau State for Riyom Local Government, Timothy Dantong, commended the Council Chairman for the initiative and urged security agencies to reciprocate the gesture by redoubling their efforts to protect lives and property.
Leader of the Riyom Legislative Council, Mafeng Mwanjal, praised the Chairman for prioritizing security and pledged the support of the legislative arm toward the success of the administration.
Similarly, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Riyom Local Government, Gideon Ntoy, lauded the Council Chairman’s commitment to improving security and called on residents to support the administration’s efforts to restore lasting peace across the area.
The Da-Gwom Rwey of Riyom, His Royal Highness Samuel Jok, also applauded the initiative, describing it as a proactive intervention that would significantly enhance the mobility and effectiveness of security personnel. He urged all stakeholders to support government efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of community stakeholders, Dauda Dashi appealed to residents to provide useful information to security agencies that would aid the arrest and prosecution of criminal elements. He assured the Chairman of their continued support in delivering on his mandate to the people.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, representatives of the various groups expressed appreciation to the Council Chairman for the gesture and pledged to make judicious use of the motorcycles in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The event climaxed with the symbolic presentation of motorcycle keys to the beneficiaries.
