Plateau 2023: Hon. Samuel Abashe Set to Contest for  Governorship

As the 2023 general elections draw closer with political parties getting ready to conduct their primary elections for the various elective positions, Hon. Samuel Abashe has said he is willing and ready to contest for the governorship of Plateau State under the Platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) come 2023.
He said his desire to contribute to the unity, growth and development of the State informed his decision to give the gubernatorial seat a shot again having contested in 2018 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which he said he withdrew his membership from in February, 2022.
According to him, it is time to give back to the society what he has benefited from it.

He made the disclosures while fielding questions from newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State Capital. He hinted that if elected, he will add to what past leaders have done in the State.
He said APGA is a party based on sound ideology and doesn’t have any form of zoning in the State.
On insecurity, he said it is the responsibility of all citizens as government only supplement.
He said though government core mandate is to secure lives and property of the citizens, the citizens also have significant roles to play as the government and security apparatus rely on human information.
He hinted that it is vital for citizens to ensure they always furnish security agencies with timely and reliable intelligence information.
“Government alone cannot curb insecurity, the contribution of the citizens is needed to achieve a secured and safer State” he said.
He called for the implementation of the recommendations of the commissions of inquiry on the crisis in Jos.

According to the Governorship hopeful, he will accord greater priority to industrialization, functional health care facilities with qualified health practitioners, employment and education.
“Vocational training for the youth is key” he said.

He said there is need to put in place the right system to generate adequate revenue for the State to finance infrastructural development, free education, sound health system and make a prosperous economy possible in the State.

According to him, with the right techniques and effective mechanisms, the State can generate N5 billion monthly.
He disclosed that his administration will revitalize the moribund industries and take advantage of the tourism potentials in the State.

He said if elected, his government will develop the youths in order for them to exploit the numerous potentials in the State under strict supervision to produce the desired results.

He said the State is blessed with huge human and natural resources that need to be properly harnessed if the State must succeed and prosper.

When asked how he will work towards making APGA acceptable in the State, he said a credible Candidate can make a Party very popular calling on the citizens to trust him as a Son who is capable, competent, credible and can deliver.
