Operation Safe Haven Assure Citizens of Being more Proactive and Decisive in Curbing Insecurity

The Commander Operation Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. Dominic C. Onyemulu has told Stakeholders in the Joint Operation Area consisting of Plateau State, parts of Kaduna State and Bauchi State that the outfit possesses the capabilities and capacities to ensure peace reign in State by dealing decisively with attackers, other criminal elements and war merchants whose intention is to destabilize the State.

He hinted that Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and Community Leaders have critical roles to play in building and sustaining peace.

He warned that any community harbouring criminals will be held responsible for their actions.

He made the disclosures during a meeting with stakeholders comprising of Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and Community Leaders across the Joint Operation Area following renewed attacks in Dong Community of Jos North LGA and Kwi Community in Riyom LGA which led to the killings of over 10 persons.

He urged the stakeholders to employ peaceful and more constructive means of resolving disputes than resulting to violence means. He also charged them to go back and warn those involved in attacks, cattle rustling, killings and other criminal activities to turn over a new leaf or be ready to face the wrath of the outfit.

Maj. Gen. Onyemulu disclosed that the security outfit will ensure that those caught with illegal weapons or using same to cause mayhem are shot at sight saying they will no longer tolerate activities of criminal elements in the Joint Operation Area.

“Any community where gunshots are heard will be searched and the weapon recovered”

“We are ready to engage the criminal elements and persons threatening the peace in our Joint Operation Area” he said.

He said all citizens in the Joint Operation Area have roles to play towards achieving enduring peace. He urged the people to eschew bitterness, hatred and acrimony by learning to live peacefully and harmoniously with one another.

The Stakeholders admonished the security outfit to match its words with actions as in the past, criminal elements are arrested and later released back to the community to continue the hostilities they are accustomed to.

They posited that it is expedient to implement the shoot at sight directive in order to address the insecurity issue bedevilling the areas.

Others observed that the presence of strangers in their communities has continue to heighten insecurity.
