Thursday 5th February, 2026 was a beehive of political activities at Kapwis Federal Ward, Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, as party faithfuls, friends, and well-wishers trooped out in their numbers to officially receive and welcome new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC). The colourful event, which held at GSS Bakin Kogi, Foron, saw the hall filled to capacity amid songs, cheers, and visible excitement as over 2,000 members from the PDP and Labour Party were formally received into the APC.
Among those welcomed were Hon. Pharm. John Chun, Director, Plateau State Liaison Office Abuja, Hon. Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, DG Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency, Hon. Markus Yakubu Gyang, Leader of the Barkin Ladi Legislative Arm and Councillor representing Kapwis Ward, Hon. Absolom Dusu, Councillor representing Kapwen/Ket, Rt. Hon. Nash Adamu (Natty), former Leader of the Barkin Ladi Legislative Arm, Hon. Simon Dep and Hon. Shut Samuel, Special Advisers to the Executive Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Council, alongside other state and local government appointees, former Councilors and Appointees as well as many other members.
APC stakeholders present to receive the new members included Rt. Hon. Isa Chungwom Song, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and former Member representing Barkin Ladi–Riyom Federal Constituency, Hon. Gyang Dung Musa, former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Zainab Ishaku, former Education Secretary, Barkin Ladi LEA, Mr. Ezekiel Gwom, Kapwis Federal Ward Chairman, and several other party leaders. In his remarks, the Ward Chairman warmly welcomed the new entrants and assured them of a level playing field, emphasizing that the APC is a party for all and calling for unity and harmony to strengthen the party at all levels. Rt. Hon. Isa Chungwom Song and other speakers described the defection as timely and in the best interest of Plateau State, urging sustained unity to attract greater federal presence and development.
Responding on behalf of the new members, Hon. Pharm. John Chun, who was visibly energized by the massive turnout, stated that the decision by His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, himself, and colleagues to align with the APC is driven by the overall interest of Plateau State, now aligned with the government at the centre. He appreciated the warm reception and assured of a productive partnership focused on grassroots development. He highlighted key benefits of the alignment, referencing the Vice President’s pronouncement on the proposed dualization of the Akwanga–Jos Road, and expressed optimism on the Korot–Bakin Kogi–Gindiri Road, following recent inspections by the Commissioner for Works. Hon. Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot reaffirmed the government’s commitment to unity and development, while Rt. Hon. Markus Yakubu Gyang, Leader Barkin Ladi Legislative Arm and Hon. Absolom, Councilor representing Kapwen/Ket Ward pledged to add value to the party and deepen grassroots development.
The event climaxed with the symbolic presentation of APC membership cards and brooms to new members, as they pledged allegiance and echoed the party’s slogan in celebration.
