Dr. Anthony Garba, Others Emerge New Executives of ANAN Plateau State Chapter

The Plateau State Chapter of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) on Friday, 6th February 2026, held its bi-annual convention which produced a new leadership through a keenly contested electoral process, setting the tone for a decisive phase of reforms, consolidation, and institutional repositioning within the Association.

The convention, widely attended by members and key stakeholders, elected executives into eight (8) strategic elective positions to pilot the affairs of the professional body for the next two years in the first instance. Three positions namely the offices of Vice Chairman, Assistant Secretary, and Financial Secretary were unopposed, reflecting internal consensus and strategic alignment among members ahead of the elections.

Declaring the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and 2nd Vice President of ANAN, Alhaji Adamu Gidado, announced Dr. Anthony Musa Garba as the duly elected Chairman after he polled 375 votes, defeating Catherine Tuamlong. The outcome was widely interpreted as a clear endorsement of Dr. Garba’s reform-oriented agenda and leadership blueprint for the Association.

Henry Ossai was returned unopposed as Vice Chairman, while James Maktong emerged as Secretary with 334 votes, defeating Bala Abednego, who polled 134 votes. Hilda Titus and Abimelech Yaro also emerged unopposed as Assistant Secretary and Financial Secretary respectively.

For the position of Treasurer, Ann Daniels secured 190 votes to defeat Salome Dalyop, who garnered 127 votes, while Philip Dorkur emerged as Public Relations Officer (PRO) after polling 272 votes, defeating his opponent who scored 89 votes.

In line with the Constitution of the Association, the immediate past Chairman, Andy Udah Agbadu, automatically assumed the position of Ex-Officio I, ensuring policy continuity and institutional memory. The office of Ex-Officio II was won by Pam Dung Gyang, who polled 327 votes, defeating his opponent who scored 91 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Anthony Musa Garba described his emergence as Chairman as a mandate for decisive leadership and structural reforms. He pledged to run an administration driven by clearly defined priorities, collective ownership of policies, and measurable outcomes.
He outlined a comprehensive agenda focused on strategic repositioning of the Branch, strengthening institutional resilience, broadening the Association’s revenue architecture, and entrenching accountability and transparency as non-negotiable pillars of his administration.

He further emphasized the need to elevate members’ professional relevance, expand capacity-building opportunities, and strengthen ANAN’s influence within national policy and financial governance spaces.

Dr. Garba also committed to an inclusive leadership model that would harness the expertise of both serving and past leaders, urging all contestants to subordinate personal interests to the collective mandate of the Association.
He paid tribute to past leaders and critical stakeholders for their sacrifices and foundational contributions, assuring members that his administration would pursue innovation-driven policies, practical reforms, and welfare-focused interventions that would deliver tangible value to members.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Alhaji Adamu Gidado, commended members for their discipline, democratic maturity, and commitment to due process, describing the election as a reflection of ANAN’s internal cohesion and readiness for the next phase of institutional growth. He charged the new executives to translate electoral victory into impactful governance.

The convention culminated in the formal inauguration of the new executives by Alhaji Adamu Gidado, followed by the official handing-over ceremony, formally ushering in a new era defined by reform, accountability, and strategic leadership within the Association.
