A Public Commentator, Hamza Yakubu has called on the Citizens to embrace the COVID-19 Vaccines in order to achieve a COVID-19 Free Society.

Mr. Hamza made the call on Thursday 11^th August, 2022 while sharing his experience on the Vaccine during a Special COVID-19 Vaccine Public Awareness Radio Programme on KT 103.9 FM Jos put together by Friday Bako with support from Centre for Information Technology And Development (CITAD)/MacArthur Foundation. The Radio Programme which is part of CITAD/MacArthur Foundation’s COVID-19 Vaccine Public Education Project has as one of its cardinal objectives to sensitize the public on the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 Vaccines.

According to him, the vaccines are effective without any negative impact to humanity as it has been proven to be safe and efficacious by the World Health Organization (WHO).

He said vaccines for the virus were produced within the shortest time on account of the researches and synergy and robust collaboration by global health Experts considering the adverse impact of the virus to humanity and the economy.

He hinted that having taken two jabs of the vaccine, he is sound and safe against the conspiracy theories by people who are bent on misinforming and misleading the people about the vaccines. He urged the people to ensure they are vaccinated to be safer and not go down with the virus. He said the reaction after taking the vaccine was mild and normal as the case with other vaccines he has taken in the past. “We are dealing with something new and there is need for us to adhere to the non-pharmaceutical protocols to be safe and contain the spread of the virus” he said.

He disclosed that the virus is still around, hence the need for the people to be vaccinated in order to eliminate the disease.

He urged the media, health experts, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and other stakeholders to make it a duty to sensitize the public on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines in order for them to be vaccinated.

He frowned at fake news and conspiracy theories which have greatly affected the uptake of the vaccines by the citizens urging the citizens to ensure they get their information from reliable sources.

He said government did not do enough as expected and was the case with other parts of the World at the inception of the pandemic.
