Senator Representing Plateau North in the National Assembly and Deputy chairman Senate Committee on Defence Barr Istifanus Gyang has asserted that diversity can either be an asset or a liability depending on how it is managed.

He made this assertion at the 2020 WUSAL BEROM held at the National Christian Center, Abuja on Sunday 15/11/2020 which had the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba in attendance.

Senator Gyang acknowledged the diversity of Nigeria as a nation and Plateau as a state due to multiplicity of ethnicity, religion and cultures.

He said the mismanagement of such diversity is what births liability. In this regard, conflicts can be said to be direct products of the mismanagement of diversity.

He cited the example where host communities can peacefully coexist with other citizens who excercise their constitutional rights of choice of residence and they in turn should seek the good, well being and progress of their new abode including respect for the culture and traditions of the host community.

Where however attempts are made to distort the history of host communities will constitute mismanagement of diversity and eventually generate apprehension.

He appreciated the Berom community for playing the good host and urged them not to be weary in doing good particularly in building bridges of relationships and friendship with other nationalities not only in Plateau State but across Nigeria.

He equally appealed to Berom Youths not to abandon the artisan skills and expertise which they were known for and attracted patronage from far and wide particularly now that white collar jobs are hard to come by.

The 2020 WUSAL BEROM Abuja witnessed huge turnout of participants including people from different ethnic nationalities across the nation. Notable personalities at the service include Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda of the FCT and Senate Minority Whip, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, Executive Secretary, Tetfund, Amb. Bagudu Hirse and the President, Tiv Cultural Organization worldwide among other guests.
