The apex registered body of the Berom Nation, the Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO) today 3rd December, 2022 during its congress meeting which held at Gwol Motel Barikin Ladi LGA, Plateau State recognized and honoured the Sector 4 Commander of the Special Task Force codenamed Operation Safe Haven, Col. Murtala Abdulsalam with a “Distinguished Star Award” for his service to humanity, relentless efforts and contributions to achieving peaceful coexistence in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and its environment.
Earlier, Da Gyang Dudu the President of BECO Worldwide commended the Award Recipient for distinguishing himself in his chosen career as a Military Officer and for the selfless service he is rendering the Nation which has improved the security of the area significantly.
According to Da Dudu, Col. Abdulsalam has demonstrated that there is hope in Nigeria and it became imperative to Give honour to whom honour is due.
He further hinted that the award is an indication of our receptive nature of the Berom Nation who have accepted the Military Officer as one of them.
“This is the first recognition and Award since the assumption of office of our administration and this goes to show how important it is considering your untiring efforts aimed at restoring peace.
This recognition is based on your gallantry, friendliness, good Civil-military relation, firmness and fairness in the discharge of your duty and even going extra miles to assisting the people.
You are truly an Officer and Gentleman, and a soldier’s Soldier. We truly love and appreciate you” he said.
The District Head of Ropp who doubles as the Dagwom Rwey Barkin Ladi, His Royal Highness Da Edward Gyang while presenting the Award to the cheering of Berom illustrious Sons and Daughters appreciated the Officer for his commitment and display of true patriotism as well as professionalism in the discharge of his duties.
He also applauded him for his approach in dealing with the security situation in the area without any form of sentiment.
The Military Officer was thereafter decorated in Berom attire and given a Berom name “Gyang” depicting his acceptability by the people and integration into the Berom Nation
In his remarks, Col. Abdulsalam who described the award as an ambush counted it a rare privilege to be honored by a reputable organization such as Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO) which he said has been championing the cause of the Berom Worldwide and for finding him worthy for the recognition.
“I have closely monitored your activities of recent past and I am bold to say this is indeed a collection of highly responsible people whose contributions to peaceful coexistence cannot be ignored.
I must acknowledge with great appreciation and respect the advice, suggestions and support of your traditional Institutions and some major stakeholders towards ensuring that lasting peace is achieved in Barkin Ladi. I wish to state that they form part of my success story in Barkin Ladi” he said.
While appreciating the Berom Nation for the honour, Col. Abdulsalam urged BECO to redouble efforts in sensitizing the people on the need to eschew bitterness, forgive and tolerate one another so as to achieve peaceful coexistence.
He charged the BECO to keep talking to the people especially the Youths to discard acts that are capable of threatening the peace and security of the area.
He said since his assumption of Office as Commander of Sector 4, no isolated attack on any settlement, community or village has been witnessed and appreciated God for the feat.
He reiterated the Sector’s commitment to achieving its mandate of restoring peace to the area that was hitherto prone to attacks.
Col. Abdulsalam in his bid to restoring peace in his area of operations has deployed the kinetic and non-kinetic approaches. Among the non-kinetic component include organizing sports/cultural activities, humanitarian interventions, provision of basic amenities, skills acquisition programmes and has assisted the less privileged with startups in some cases.
