USAID DONATES 3.2 MILLION INSECTICIDE TREATED NETS TO PLATEAU STATE

Plateau State Government has taken possession of 3.2 million insecticide treated bed nets valued at 3.7 billion naira from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

A statement signed by Dr. Makut Simon Macham the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor of Plateau State reads that” While inspecting the nets in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, Governor Simon Bako Lalong expressed appreciation to the United States Government for the contribution which he said was the result of close partnership that spans many years.”

The statement reads that “Governor Lalong immediately directed the release of 126 million naira counterpart funding to facilitate quick distribution of the nets to the people of the State.”

Lalong said “our rescue administration pays a lot of premium on healthcare delivery and will continue to forge partnerships with domestic and international organisations such as USAID”

He added that “these nets should first be distributed from the rural areas to all citizens especially women and children before coming up to the urban centres”

Governor Lalong warned against sale of the nets by either staff or beneficiaries saying that anyone who is caught will be dealt with and prosecuted.

The Governor promised to visit the USAID country office in Abuja soon to consolidate on the partnership and broaden it to other areas such as agriculture, good governance and works.

Commissioner for health Dr. Nimkong Lar Ndam explained that the nets will assist the State will greatly in addressing malaria and other diseases.

He said the distribution process will engage 25,000 youths as ad-hoc staff which will cover all parts of the State.
