US Based NGO Assists Displaced Persons in Mangu LGA, Plateau State

A United States based non-governmental organization, Palodi Development and Empowerment has donated relief materials worth millions of Naira to victims of attacks in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following the attacks that led to the killings of many persons and destructions of houses as well as farm crops in the area.
While donating the items to the religious Leaders for onward distribution to the victims the Chief Executive Director of the the Organization, Mr. Diamond Longjel hinted that the gesture is to reduce the sufferings being faced by the persons affected by the ugly situation.
He said the organization which is incorporated in California,United States is aimed at helping the less privileged in the society. He expressed sadness over the unabated security challenges bedeviling the State especially Mangu LGA that has claimed several lives.
Mr. Diamond charged government at all levels and the security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property of the citizens which is their cardinal responsibilities.

He said the organization saw the need to extend relief assistance to the people to ameliorate the hardships the people are going through since their socio-economic activities and other means of livelihood that has been sustaining them have been adversely affected by the genocide and also called on spirited individuals and other organizations to come to the aid of the people with more interventions to address their humanitarian needs.

The Vice President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Timothy Nwan disclosed that many villages in Mangu LGA were attacked with over 200 persons killed including 5 clergies while several others were injured and over 6,000 persons rendered homeless due to the burning of their houses and stored foodstuffs.
He lauded the NGO for the humanitarian interventions saying it will go a long way in addressing the welfare needs of the people since many of them can hardly eat due to their present predicaments and prayed for more open doors.

While receiving the items on behalf of the affected persons the Provincial Church Councils (PCC) Chairman Gindiri, Rev. Jacob Dashwap and PCC Chairman Panyam, Rev. John Gofor appreciated the gesture by the organization saying it will alleviate the challenges faced by the victims of the attacks.
They both charged Government to increase security presence in the area to restore calm and enable the people settle down in their ancestral homes.
The victims appreciated the NGO for identifying with them and providing them with the relief items in their most trying moments.
Items donated include rice, detergents, seasonings, cash among many others.
