Maj. Gen. Abubakar Assumes Office as GOC 3 Division/Commander Operation Safe Haven, Seeks Support to Address Insecurity

Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar today assumed office as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos Plateau State and Commander of the Special Task Force codenames Operation Safe Haven with a call on the personnel of the Division and well meaning Nigerians to accord him the needed support in order to surmount the insecurity bedeviling the Joint Area of Operation.

He applauded the leadership of the Nigerian Army for finding him worthy to be entrusted with the responsibility of superintending the affairs of the Division and Operation Safe Haven. He said under his watch, he will not condone criminality and acts that are injurious to National security.

He lauded the sterling leadership of the outgoing GOC, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalami Ibrahim promising to build on the legacies he is leaving behind.
According to him, he is not unaware of the challenges but together with his personnel and the cooperation of well meaning Nigerians, he will do his best to contain same.
He said he is prepared to face the challenges Head-on and to lead well.
He pleaded for the cooperation of the personnel and called for readiness and teamwork to defeat the security threat. He also disclosed that he will give priority to the welfare of the personnel.

Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing General Officer Commanding 3 Division who is now the Chief of Policy and Planning Nigerian Army Headquarters appreciated the personnel of the Division for the cooperation given to him and the team spirit throughout his five-month stay as the GOC and Commander Operations Safe Haven.

While biding farewell to the Soldiers, he admonished them to remain disciplined, professional, sincere and display integrity at all times.
“You must remain highly disciplined at all times and display your gallantry as we confront the security challenges confronting the Nation. As you are all aware, the Army will not take any act of indiscipline from any Army Personnel” he said.
He harped on the need for good maintenance culture of the infrastructures in the barracks.

He charged the Army personnel to put in their best in serving the Nation and give the New GOC the needed support to succeed.

While handing over to the New GOC, he called on him to consolidate on the gains recorded during his stay and work towards leaving better legacies that will stand the test of time.
The separate handing over ceremonies which held at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos and the Operation Safe Haven Headquarters Jos were preceded by the Commissioning of a remodelled Duty Standby Room and Canteen at the Division’s Garrison by the outgoing GOC who also conducted an inspection tour of the remodelled Army Children School in the Division.

The handing over was witnessed by Senior Officer of the Division and Operation Safe Haven respectively.
