A renowned Legal Luminary, Social and Human Rights Activist Barr. Gyang Zi in a dinner organized by International Community on Nigeria, at the National Press Club, Washington DC, USA on the 15th October 2019, in an interactive session with former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo alongside US Congress.

The major focus of the interaction was on Leadership in Nigeria and the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo is of the opinion that the Present Government have failed woefully in the area of Managing Nigerias diversity of Culture, Religion and Security.

According to his Facebook timeline, he said “it was a night of interaction at the National Press Club, Washington DC, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, members of the American Congress and Others at a dinner organized by International Community on Nigeria (ICON)”.

In the course of interaction, Gyang Zi observed and raised questions in regards to the security challenges in the country as follows:

“For us to be able to develop, there is a need for us to be consistent, and is the consistency going to be on our blueprint or in the continuity of our leadership.”?

“Secondly, the present leadership in Nigeria appeared to be overwhelmed by the security challenges, and I think leaving it alone to the present President will only ditch us into a deeper abyss. I don’t want presume that is deliberate, but assuming it is deliberate, I don’t know weather there is a forum where all leaders do seat to address this issues”?

“Thirdly, Sir! as a suggestion, you made mention earlier …. that all countries that bordered the river Congo to the North will very soon be engulfed by this menace. And from what is already happening or have happened, Kenya has been attacked, and so many countries around the area. My suggestion here is, since you have served Africa, and today whenever your name is mentioned, not only in Africa, but across the world; everyone must give you a a listing ears. Is there anything to do, to bring the leadership of that region together as one force to fight this menace”? Asked Zi.

In response, former President Olusegun Obasanjo said, He also feels President Muhammadu Buhari has shown insensitivity in Managing the security challenges in the country arising from:

  1. Boko Haram in the North East
  2. Bandits in the North West.
  3. Activities of Fulanis in the Middle Belt and other parts of the Country.
  4. Kidnapping and Arm Robbery across the country.
  5. Poor Economic and social policies.

His emphasis was more on the inability of the Government to be pro active in resolving the perpetual problem of insecurity in the country either by dialogue or any other means.
