Sum Pyem Gindiri: Community Berates Gov. Lalong for Disobeying Supreme Court Orders

Concerned community members of Gindiri town of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state, have urged governor Simon Lalong, to install Arc, Nuhu Ibrahim Manomi, as Sumpyem of Gindiri, in compliance with Supreme Court judgement.

This was contained in a text of press briefing, by Auwal Haruna Ma’aji, saying the; “community is now in disarray,” due to non compliance with the Supreme Court judgement of February 1st, 2019, by the governor.

He said: “communal living, peaceful and harmonious coexistence of its people is under threats, due to inaction(s) of the Plateau state government in implementing the judgment/orders of the Supreme Court accordingly.”

Ma’aji said there is need for an urgent and decisive action by the state government in order to prevent any, “ugly security,” situation that may arise as a result of the non compliance.

“..as a government of Rule of Law and that winch, maintains law and order in securing the lives/properties of its citizens.
“Disobeying court order purportedly in whatever, “Interest(s)” violates the constitution and defying court orders as such sets the society at a risk of arbitrariness of power which can abort every constitutional guarantees,” he said.

Ma’aji said Arc, Nuhu Ibrahim Manomi, was selected by 8 of the 11 kingmakers in 2004, upheld by Plateau state High Court in 2006 and by Supreme Court but the government is yet to comply.

“We expects Governor Simon Lalong, to comply with the court order, just as he did to the state election tribunal, by swearing in the chairman of Langtang North LGC,” he said.

Ma’aji said more worrisome is the situation at which Government of Jonah Jang, had in 2013, defied court orders and conducted another selection, with installation of Mr. Charles M. Dakat, as the Sumpyem, adding that the situation is generating appehension in the community.

“Now, the community is faced with the problem of having two(2) acclaimed winners to the same one and only throne of Sumpyem,” he asserted; “the two(2) contending winners belong to different religious faiths of Islam and Christianity’and if proper care and measures are not taken to handle this issue it can/may turn up to be something else never imagined than described. . . God forbid!”

The state Comissioner of Justice, Barr. Chrisantus Ahmadu, could not answer and reply phone calls and text message put across to him as at the time of filling this report.
