Seventh Day Adventist Church Takes Humanitarian Support to Displaced Person in Bassa Communities, Condemn Killings

In order to alleviate the hardship being faced by the Displaced persons from Communities in Miango and Kwall Districts Bassa LGA, the Seventh Day Adventist Church North East Nigeria Conference (NENC) has donated 10 bags of maize, 5 bags full of clothes and 2 bags of shoes to persons affected by attacks that led to the killings of many and the prolonged destruction of farm crops in the area.

Delivering the items at the Palace of Braa Nggwe Rigwe, the President of the Seventh Day Adventist Church North East Nigeria Conference, Pastor Joshua Mallum who was accompanied by other Leaders of the Church described the killings as barbaric, wicked, callous and ungodly.
He said they were at the Palace to empathize with the people because “an injury to one is an injury to all” and in line with biblical injunction of assisting the needy whose predicament came about from enemies of humanity, State and Nation.

He disclosed that the humanitarian crisis being faced by the displaced persons informed their visit.
He also said they were at the Palace to condole the Irigwe Nation over the senseless and unabated killings going on in the area.

“The Bible admonishes us to visit brethren who are going through trying moments in order to encourage them and accord them humanitarian support”

“What the people are going through doesn’t affect the Irigwe Nation alone but humanity and we are greatly touched by the obnoxious condition of the people who were displaced from their ancestral lands”

“People were attacked, many were killed and farm crops destroyed with the people going through unquantifiable hardship”

“The enemies are not in consonance with peaceful coexistence, they love bloodshed and hostilities but God will nullify their evil plans and revenge” he said.

Rev. Joshua charged government and security agencies to be more deliberate and proactive in finding a lasting solution to the attacks and bring an end to the carnage as well as other criminal activities.

He encouraged the people not to take the laws into their hands, not to give up, to exhibit resilience and trust in God to help them overcome the ugly situation.

Receiving the delegation and the relief materials, the Brra Nggwe Rigwe, HRH Rev. Ronku Aka commended them for the show of love and for identifying with the people in their most trying moments.
He said the visit and humanitarian gesture of the Church will go a long way in assisting the people who are going through untold hardships.
He disclosed that he has lost over 1,000 subjects since the crisis started over a decade ago.

“Your visit has rekindled our hope and encouraged us with the fact that there is light at the end of the tunnel”

“We are constantly under attacks, my people are being killed on daily basis, crops being destroyed with a view to inflict hunger crisis on the people. Last week, we buried five of our people who were killed.
We have lost a lot and our communities are under siege by people we accommodated, gave lands for free but have turned against us and killing us senselessly” he said.

He urged the Church to continue to preach the gospel of peace and love.

The President Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Prince Robert Rigye lauded the delegation for their demonstration of brotherly love and urged them to continue to unite the people.

Prayers were said for the restoration of peace in Irigwe Nation, Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
