The member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Barr. Dr. I. D. Gyang has visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of the attacks in Barkin Ladi that killed over 200 persons.
Barr. I. D. Gyang who was visibly emotional told the displaced persons that he is personally affected and he is greatly pained.
He said he felt the need to visit them with food from his house to ensure they eat just as he is eating.
He said he has severally raised concern on the floor of the National Assembly on the need for the Federal Government to come to the aid of his people who are under seize.
“Three weeks ago, I told the Nation on the floor of the National Assembly that my people are under siege but nothing was done and over 200 of my people were killed in cold blood without any provocation” he said.
Barr. I. D. Gyang frowned at the ongoing genocide which he said is well planned and carried out with aimed at eliminating and wiping his peaceful and accommodating people from the face of the earth.
“These attacks and killings are inhuman, wicked, barbaric and highly condemnable” he said.
“We thank God that the international community has shown interest in our predicament” he further said.
He said the Government must rise up to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property of the citizen in line with the oath they swore.
He also called on the security agencies to work towards ensuring they safeguard and protect the people by being objective, unbiased and professional in discharging their official duties.
He charged the people not not lose faith but keep trusting God and praying for full restoration of permanent peace.
He said his prayer is for the killers to repent from their evil ways.
He thanked leaders of the host communities for accepting the displaced persons and attending to their enormous needs.
He called on government and well-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the people by meeting their immediate needs while ensuring their destroyed houses are reconstructed so they can go back and continue with their normal lives.
He encouraged the people and advised them to remain united and committed to God, their creator.
Leaders of the host communities thanked Barr. I. D. Gyang for swiftly coming to see the people and said that is an indication that he is a leader with the people at heart.
They appreciated him for the foodstuffs he brought and pray God to replenish him.
Over five thousand displaced persons mostly women and children were visited.
There are camps yet to be visited which he intend to do tomorrow.
