Relieve as Special Task Force Leads Resettlement of Over 600 Displaced Persons in Plateau State, Deploys Personnel to Community

Relieve came the way of over 600 displaced persons of Jong Community, Lohbiring Ward in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State as they were resettled to their ancestral homes after over 7 Years of being displaced by criminal elements.

The Commander Operation Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Rukuba Plateau State, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali while commissioning the Solar powered panel motorized borehole the Military provided for the Community to ease their water need and the 38 Houses rebuilt through the collective efforts of illustrious Sons and Daughters of the Berom Nation reassured the commitment of the security outfit to provide adequate security to the community in order for the people to be secured.
According to him, security personnel have been deployed to the community to ensure all security threats are checked and tackled in a timely manner.

He said the Operation Safe Haven provided water supply and solar search light to give the returnees sense of belonging and as a display of empathy.
He pointed out that This occasion was unique as it will give them the opportunity to examine the important roles they played in
assisting displaced communities resettle back to their ancestral
lands and further inform everyone what must be done to prevent
such occurrence from happening again. He said the unfortunate incident that led to the displacement of Jong community which dates back to 2015 had long been addressed through different means
championed by relevant authorities in the corridor of peace.
“Operation SAFE HAVEN was instrumental in bringing succour to
this displaced community through its clearance operations organized to neutralize the perpetrators. We have put in place strong security measures to ensure that no community is attacked or displaced again within our Joint Operations Area. This we shall sustain through aggressive patrols,
regular clearance operations and intelligence gathering. We have also encouraged communities to form vigilante groups that would assist the operations of security agencies in local communities where criminals are inhabitants of same communities. Community participation in conflict resolution is now a major aspect of Operation SAFE HAVEN non-kinetic measures to consolidate the peace and unity across areas within its jurisdiction. With this great feat achieved today, we shall give no room for Jong community to be displaced again. We shall do everything possible to ensure Jong community is safe for anyone to live and thrive in their business, which will in turn improve the standard of living of residents” he said.

He appreciated all those who contributed to ensure the reconstruction of the community which made the return of the people possible.

In his remarks, Sector 4 Commandant, Col. Murtala Ali commended the Commandant Operation Safe Haven who he said was moved with compassion and made sincere efforts to return various displaced persons to their ancestral land.
He assured the people that security personnel have been deployed to ensure no attack reoccur.
He said since his assumption of duty as Commander of Sector 4, they have been working tirelessly to ensure no community is attacked and their efforts are yielding positive outcomes as many criminal elements whose stock-in-trade was fueling crisis were neutralized.

“The peaceful and orderly conduct of this epoch making event and the successes recorded thus far in peace building are evidential prove of an irreversible return of peace in Barkin Ladi. Hence, I make bold to state that Barkin Ladi has witnessed unprecedented peace without any co-ordinated attacks on any community, settlement or group of persons by the usual unknown gunmen for over 2 years.

A passionate appeal to Government at all levels, Non Governmental organizations and distinguish individuals to kindly assist other displaced persons in rebuilding their ravished homes and provide some basic amenities. By this, several communities will show interest to return to their ancestral land” he concluded.

Jong Community Leader, Da Alexander Gyang appreciated the efforts of the people and Operation Safe Haven in ensuring the safe return of his people. According to him, the community made up of 128 Households with over 600 inhabitants was attacked, destroyed and several persons killed in 2015 and 2018 which made it inhabitable. According to him, 38 Houses were rebuilt through the contributions of well spirited individuals, with a solar powered borehole and solar search light by Operation Safe Haven to provide accommodation, safe drinking water and lighten the Community.

Dagwom Rwey of Barikin Ladi, His Highness Da Edward Gyang lauded the roles played by Operation Safe Haven in providing basic amenities, providing security and working for the peace being enjoyed across the Local Government Area.

President of Berom Education and Cultural Organization (BECO), Da Gyang Dudu appreciated all those who contributed to the rebuilding of the community and charged government at all levels as well well-spirited individuals to come to aid of the people to enhance their economic activities and other basic needs of livelihood.

The Dagwom Rwey later bestow award and title to the Commander as the Da Sangal Ntyiang Jol (Ambassador of Peace Jong), Da Chomo Jong (Jong Warrior) to the Sector Commander, Col. Abdulsalam and the Senator Plateau North, Barr. Istifanus Gyang was also awarded.

The event was well attended by Traditional Rulers led by the Dagwom Rwey Jos South LGA His Highness Da Nga Dangyang who represented the Gbong Gwom Jos, religious Leaders, political stalwarts, illustrious Sons and Daughters of Berom Nation and Plateau State at large.
