PSA-UK Appeals to President Tinubu for Decisive Action Against Escalating Terror Attacks

Plateau State Association UK (PSA-UK), the umbrella body of indigenes of Plateau State residing in the United Kingdom, has issued a clarion call to the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to exercise his constitutional authority as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces by dismantling all armed groups terrorizing innocent Nigerians, in order to pave the way for a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The appeal was made during a World Press Conference held on Friday, 21st November 2025, in the United Kingdom against the backdrop of worsening insecurity across Nigeria.

According to the text of the Press Conference signed by Dr. Solomon Chollom, President of the Association, and Sendi Zachariah, Public Relations Officer, and made available to this medium, the group decried the avoidable loss of lives caused by heavily armed terrorists, leading to widespread fear and hardship among citizens.

PSA-UK condemned in strong terms the escalating killings, abductions, attacks on worshippers, and the general deterioration of security in Nigeria, stressing that the situation demands urgent and decisive intervention. They highlighted the devastating effects of insecurity on lives, livelihoods, development, and the global perception of both Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.

According to the statement: “It is alarming and heartbreaking that what began as isolated incidents decades ago has now snowballed into a nationwide catastrophe; one that has spared no region and continues to expand in both scale and brutality.”

The group expressed disappointment over what they described as the government’s insufficient political will to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators of these heinous crimes. They noted that armed Fulani herdsmen and other violent groups have repeatedly claimed responsibility for numerous attacks across the Middle Belt and beyond, yet are often still referenced by authorities as “unknown gunmen.”

They emphasized that this classification is unacceptable, especially when many of these groups openly claim responsibility, challenge state authority, invade communities, and sustain digital footprints that are traceable.

They added: “If the Nigerian Government and security agencies lack the capability to decisively confront these violent actors, there is no shame in seeking support from the international community. Pride in the face of a national crisis only leads to more suffering, displacement, and death.”

The Association referenced recent disturbing events, including the gruesome murder of a senior military officer by terrorists, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, and attacks on worshippers in Kwara State.
They also cited ongoing killings, displacement, and annexation of villages in Plateau State, the increasing blockade of farmers from accessing their farmlands, and situations where armed bandits negotiate with government from a position of strength.

According to PSA-UK, these incidents collectively reflect a troubling pattern of coordinated violence, impunity, and state vulnerability.

The group reaffirmed its support for the Nigerian Military in fulfilling its constitutional mandate to protect lives, property, and territorial integrity. While acknowledging and honoring the sacrifices of military personnel, they urged the military hierarchy to conduct an internal audit of its professionalism, neutrality, preparedness, and training in light of rising allegations of complicity, conspiracy, and compromise in certain operations.

PSA-UK extended sympathy to families who have lost loved ones, displaced persons living in camps, and rural dwellers living under constant fear of attacks.

They reminded President Tinubu that his foremost responsibility is the protection of lives and property, cautioning against frequent deflections that security funds are given to governors who have no constitutional control over security agencies.

The group condemned the tendency of authorities to debate casualty figures, insisting that “one person killed is a generation erased; a household wiped out is a lineage extinguished; one religious building burnt is an attack on faith; and one forced conversion is religious terrorism.”

They further charged the Plateau State Government to strengthen local intelligence networks, early-warning systems, and community-based security frameworks to stem the deteriorating security situation.

Reaffirming their solidarity with the people of Plateau State, PSA-UK stressed that the ongoing situation is not merely a security crisis but a national, humanitarian, and moral emergency. They vowed to continue speaking up for a Nigeria “where no child is abducted, no farmer displaced, no worshipper targeted, and no community left behind.”
