The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos Prof Bernard Matur has commended the Department of Theatre Arts of the Institution for producing talents that are redefining the creative industry in the country.
The Vice Chancellor made the commendation during the 400 Level Directing Workshop (THA 423) where a play titled, LEGENDS OF ONOJA OBON, written by Paul Ugbede was staged at the Open Air Theatre of the University.
Prof. Matur who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin), Associate Professor Jurji Gomos applauded the dexterity and creativity with which the 400 level students of the Department used the stage to deliver the play script.
The University’s Don maintained that his Institution prides itself to have one of the best Theatre Arts Departments in the country.
While appraising the Production, the Head of the Department who is also the chief examiner of the workshop, Dr. Solomon Obidah Yamma extolled the outstanding artistic agility of the Supervising Director, Dr. Danbello Ahmadu Ibrahim, describing him as an expert who is versatile in unifying and harnessing all the various endeavors and aspects of productions.
Obidah took out time to make a thorough critique of the technical and performance aspects of the production where he affirmed that the Production is one of the best the Department has had in recent times.
The Head of Department described the cast and crew as a team of creative students who were deliberate at realizing their artistic vision for the Production.
He appealed to the Management of the University to construct a befitting indoor theatre for the Department which will make possible the full deployment of other technical components required of stage productions.
The author of the play, Mr. Paul Agbede who was represented by Dr. Shola John expressed deep satisfaction with the way the play script was delivered on stage and attributed the feat recorded by the Supervising Director and his production team to uncommon hard work and greater commitment to duty.
Ugbede encouraged the students never to relent in pursuing their career in Theatre Arts as the discipline harbours inestimable opportunities for the advancement of society.
Goodwill messages came from the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Ayuba and staffers of the Department.
