Plateau Killings: We are not Here to Joke; We’ll be Decisive, Firm and Fair in Dealing With Insecurity – Maj. Gen. Abubakar

The New Commander Operation Safe Haven who also doubles as the General Officer Commanding 3 Armoured Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos Plateau State, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar has declared that there will be no hiding place for those attacking communities, killing people, destroying houses and farm crops in Mangu Local Government Area, other parts of Plateau State and the entire joint operation area saying the security outfit will be firm, decisive and fair to all in discharging its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property of the Citizens.

According to him, those whose stock-in-trade is killing innocent citizens must desist or be ready to face the consequences of their actions as he is ready to confront the security challenges bedeviling the State head-on.

He disclosed that the security outfit will not sit and watch the national security being threatened by any person or group and as such it will be ruthless in dealing with criminal elements and restoring peace to communities affected by the killings, the State and Joint Operation Area as a whole.

Maj. Gen. Abubakar who took over the baton of leadership of the Special Task Force on Saturday 8th July, 2023 was in Sabon Gari Mangu LGA this Morning for on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in the area were 12 persons were killed and five Houses burnt in an attacked that engulfed the communities around 10:50pm.
He disclosed that measures will be put in place to forestall a reoccurrence of the ugly act, calling on the citizens to accord them the needed support and cooperation to nip in the bud.
He hinted that they were in Mangu Local Government Area to stabilize the security situation and ensure it does not deteriorate any further.
“We are not here to joke, we’ll be decisive, firm and fair and whatever need to be done will be put in place to restore peace. We cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result. All of us must think outside the box so that we can find a lasting solution to the crisis, it doesn’t benefit anyone” he said.
He hinted that he has been fully briefed about the situation which has affected the socio-economic activities of the people and the education of the children who can no longer attend schools on account of the insecurity.
He assured the citizens that the outfit will do its best to overcome the security situation as security has been beefed with more security personnel on ground. He said he temporarily relocated to Mangu LGA to tackle the situation.

He said no development can be achieved when there is no security and the right thing must be done to restore peace and forestall any emerging threat.

He also appealed for calm to angry Youths and Women who were protesting the attacks and killings.
Brig. Brig-Gen. Gakji Shipi (Rtd) the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor of Plateau State, Hon. Jerry Satmark the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor and the Attorney General of the State Barr. Philemon Dafi were also on ground to assess the situation.

Meanwhile the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang in consultation with the State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Mangu Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere movements within the Local Government have been banned until further notice except for security personnel and persons on essential duties.

He disclosed that Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure total enforcement of the curfew.

“Meanwhile, the governor has assured the people that government is working round-the-clock to restore peace and security in the state” he concluded.
