Plateau group condoles Benue citizens over killings,says Ranching only solution to farmers /Herdsmen clash 

Group operating under the aegis of Plateau Regeneration group (PRG ) has said that Ranching is the only solution to farmers and herders in the state .

The group also described the Plateau State governor Simon Lalong as a man of peace who is determined to  unite all tribes in Plateau. 

Public relations officer of  the group Choi Bandung Chuhwak  ,made this known while addressing journalists in Jos on Friday  .

He said “We would want to start this press conference by condoling the peace loving  people and government of Benue state over the unfortunate attacks of two local government areas of the state that led to the death of many lives and destruction of properties, our hearts are with the people of Benue in this trying moments ”

“As a group, we however want to state Our total and unalloyed support to alternative to open grazing  which is ranching.”

In this regard we stand with our governor Simon Lalong in carefully analysing alternative options before implementing any policy that would put to end farmers /Herdsmen clashes in our dear state Plateau. 

We also wish to use this opportunity to clear the air on our governor,s interview  with state house Correspodent in Abuja where he was quoted out of context. 

“Our findings revealed that what the Gov simon Lalong actually meant in the interview was that implementing a policy like ban on open grazing without alternative measures would be counter productive. ”

 For example if you ban traders from trading on the streets like let’s take for instance the street of  Termius in Jos, as a responsible government you must have provided an alternative market for them  to move to, because if not no matter how you chase them from the streets, they would still come back due to lack of where to go and that has a tendency of creating conflicts between them and the security saddled with the  enforcement of the ban”

 As a group  we  berated those who have taken to the social media to make negative statements and draw political points out of the unfortunate situation in Benue, while the pains in the grieving hearts of the victims where still fresh. 

Our governor Simon Lalong is a man determinate to restore law and order in Plateau and deserve the support of Plateau people. 

We want to assure the people of Plateau State and indeed all Nigerians, that  Dialogue around all the options for peaceful coexistence amongst all citizens, remain the best solution to any situation that is a threat to peace in the country. 

We also stand by our governor  Simon Lalong  that Ranching remains the best option  to end clashes between herders and farmers  and call on all to explore the benefits in the ranching and cattle Colonies proposed by the Federal Government as an alternative to open grazing, which will certainly be banned as part of the solution to the incessant farmers and herdsmen conflict all around the country.
