The 3 Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army is holding its 2023 Finance Training Week with the theme “Building Capacity for a Professional and Efficient Financial Services Delivery in the Nigerian Army” aimed at equipping its Finance and Accounts Personnel with the required knowledge to improve their expertise and make them more productive in discharging both their Accounting and core duties.
Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army) of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps the Special Guest of Honour while declaring the training officially open hinted that the training is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the finance Corps officers serving in the 3 Division Area of Responsibility with the requisite skills to provide effective services to units, formations as well as Nigerian Army Personnel within the 3 Division Area of Responsibility.
According to the Military General, training is one of the key pillars of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) command philosophy which is “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well Trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibility within a Joint Environment”
He said the training week will further the achievement of the Chief of Army Staff’s vision for the Nigerian Army.
He said the Division Finance Training is designed to address the training needs of Finance Officers and bring them up to speed on contemporary finance issues especially the Federal Government Financial policies.
He charged all Nigerian Army Finance Officers to be more proactive and proficient by ensuring that financial services are rendered to all Nigerian Army Personnel as well as units and formations at the right place and time in line with extant laws.
“You must always remember first that you are Military Personnel and the Nigerian Army Soldiers before being finance Soldiers” he said.
He admonished them to take the training seriously and put the lessons to be learnt seriously in improving their competence and service delivery.
In his remarks the Host, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation Safe Haven lauded the Chief of Accounts and Budget for the well prepared training for the Army Personnel which he said is earmarked to enhance the knowledge, skills and capacity of personnel as contained in the forecast of events for the Year 2023.
He stated that “the importance of training in every Organization cannot be overemphasized. It is an essential condition for success in every Military activity. For the Nigerian Army, training remain paramount in the discharge of our constitutional responsibilities to the Federal Republic of Nigeria”
He said continuous training of Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army is imperative to remain proficient in order to carry out their duties more effectively at all times.
He commended the Chief of Accounts and Budget for placing high premium and value on the professionalism and training of Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps.
He said the Nation has been going through security and economic challenges with the Federal Government making concerted efforts to combat the challenges those issues pose to national security and reposition the Country to the path of good for sustainable development.
He urged the participants to put the lessons learnt to effective use so that the desired result would be achieved.
Earlier while welcoming Participants, the Acting Commandant 3 Division Finance and Accounts, Colonel. CA Ajoku applauded the Special Guest of Honour for graciously approving the training of the Finance Personnel and said the training is aimed at achieving the vision of the Nigerian Army Chief of Accounts and Budget which is to bequeath a Corps that is proactive and proficient in delivering financial services to support the Nigerian Army in accomplishing assigned missions in defense of Nigeria.
The Participants were trained by erudite Resource Persons on wide range of topics such as; the Federal Government Financial Reform Policies: Implications for Nigerian Army Operations and way forward, Rendition of Accounts: Imperative for the Nigerian Army, Drugs and substance abuse: Implications and Effects on Military Duties.
The training also featured interactive sessions on all the lectures presented.
Highlight of the training which held at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos Auditorium include presentation of souvenirs to resource Persons.
The Special Guest of Honour who was accompanied by Brig. Gen. John Sura (Rtd), Long Kwo His Highness Col. Fidelis Attahiru (Rtd), the GOC 3 Division and other top Military Officers/ Guest also took time to commission a 30-apartment building at Phase 2 of the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, Plateau State.
