Mikang LG APC Stakeholders Upholds Zoning of All Elective Offices, Votes Against Third Term

The Mikang APC stakeholders forum met today 2nd May, 2022 to deliberate on the prospects of the party ahead of the 2023 general election. The meeting which was attended by all the critical stakeholders of the Local Government including the council chairman, deputy chairman, secretary to council, member representing Mikang in the State House of Assembly, zonal woman leader, Former House of Reps Member, State legal adviser of the party, all elected Councillors, all Federal ward chairmen, permanent secretaries retired and serving, past local government chairmen, all government appointees and a retinue of relevant stakeholders was co-chaired by the duo of the commissioner for Lands & Survey Hon. YAKUBU DATI and the Commandant of Plateau State operation Rainbow AIG BASHIR MAKAMA Rtd.

The business of the meeting was to appraise the situation in Mikang in view of the recent developments from some APC strongholds where they raised an alarm on the need for the party to respect the principle of power rotation in the next coming election. The issue became heated on account of the resolutions reached by the stakeholders of all the districts in the local government calling for the need to uphold the principle of zoning which though unwritten; has been observed in power sharing at the local government. In their separate submissions, the stakeholders of Montol, Garkawa and Koenoem had earlier submitted to the House their resolve to stand against the aspiration of the serving member describing it as an act that is capable of tearing the party apart. This according to them was arrived at as a result of a dispassionate assessment of the voting mood across the local government where the people are set and committed to vote against the party if it presents a candidate against the principle of zoning.

The stakeholders who debated on the issues with three persons each speaking from a district had the majority of the speakers supporting power rotation. To confirm the position of the majority speakers, the matter was thrown open where the stakeholders voted for and against zoning. A total of 74 stakeholders were present at the meeting, 7 were indifferent, 20 were in support of the Third term bid while an overwhelming 47 stakeholders voted for power rotation. The House adopted the voice of the majority declaring it as the position of the Mikang APC.

The resolution was documented and signed by all the stakeholders present with the exception of the present member whose action was described by all as selfish and anti progressive.

The member while addressing his minority supporters insinuated that the Governor who is indebted to him will impose him on the people of Mikang and that the meeting was a total waste of time. The statement was described as rude and disrespectful. The stakeholders assured those present that they will present the resolution to the Governor whom they described as a listening father who will buy into their plight of rescuing the party from an eminent collapse.
