The Plateau State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, of delaying the conduct of election into the 17 local councils of the state since he assumed office two years ago.
The opposition party also alleged that the state has remained undeveloped in spite of huge funds availed the state by the federal government for infrastructural development .
The party made its observation known in a press statement signed by the state public relations officer, Hon. John Akans.
The statement which was issued shortly after meeting of the state executive council of the party held at the party secretariat Jos noted that “Gov Lalong has continued to embark on retrogressive actions that has left the state undeveloped”
The statement reads: “the state governor has refused to conduct local government elections in the state, the governor has even refused to sign into law the state electoral commission bill passed by the state house of assembly that would have paved ways for the smooth conduct of council elections.
“The state executive committee of PDP therefore called on Gov Lalong to immediately sign the PLASIEC bill on his table and announce date for council elections”
On the alleged under-development of the state, the statemet said, “In just two years, the APC administration has borrowed more than N42 billion with no tangible results to show in the state. The governor has not been able to articulate and enunciate clear economic and social policies that will leave marked improvement in the lives of people of the state.
“Rather, the governor lack of vision has turned the government house into an exclusive club where impunity, imposition and total disregard for constitutionalism have become the order of the day.
“The party observed that under Gov Lalong, the state is in dire and sorry situation and desperately in need of political and social rehabilitation.”
The party also condemned the alleged revocation of contracts of some inherited projects by Gov Lalong, saying such actions are retrogressive to the growth of the state.
The party commended its National Assembly members for their positive roles in the ongoing national constitutional amendment. It also applauded the roles of its state assembly members for their resilience and courage to stand out in protest against excesses of the executive.
