A PRESS STATEMENT BY LEMORO NATIONAL YOUTH MOVEMENT ON THE SPATE OF INCESSANT KIDNAPPING AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES IN LEMORO COMMUNITIES

3rd June 2021.

_– Protocol_
_-Gentlemen of the Press_

We are pained to address you this afternoon on the flagrant, inhuman activities of evil men being perpetrated in our Lemoro communities.

We hope that our silence all this while is not being misinterpreted to mean acquiescence or that we are not perturbed by the dastardly acts being perpetrated on our people.

Lemoro people are peace loving citizens found largely in Rimi and Bakin-Kogi wards of Pengana Chiefdom in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A good population of Lemoro people are also indigenous in Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Taraba and Kogi States of Nigeria.

Wherever they are found, the Lemoro people (Anamoro) are known to be peaceful and peaceable, loving and lovable, industrious and industrializing, hardworking and productive, never arrogant but full of tolerance and amiable mien, enterprising and goal-getting.

In virtually all works of life, the Lemoro is never a foot-dragger.

In the academics, civil and public service; business and politics, religious circle and the private sector; the Lemoro man is there contributing his quota, and actually blazing the trail.

It is therefore a big surprise that despite the accommodating nature of the our people, we still are recipients of untold orgies of kidnappings and sometimes violent maiming as well as killing by armed bandits and criminals.

We will like to outline the following occurrences.
1. The gruesome murder of Mr. Mairabo Chapa in cold blood at his residence by merchants of death and violence. Till today, no arrest nor prosecution has been heard!

2. The kidnap of one Mr. Ishaya Ayuba (also known as Agari Dudu), one of our greatest farmers and agriculturalists, dated 27th October, 2020.
He was only released after huge sums were collected from his family as ransom.

3. Kidnap of one Mr. Musa Adede, another great Lemoro farmer based in Rade village, Bakin-Kogi Ward. He too had to part with staggering sums of his hard-earned, farm-generated money before he was allowed to go, after almost two weeks in the den of kidnappers.

4. The land grabbing and intrusion by Fulani men in Bugu village.

5.The kidnap of one Mrs. Rahila Ishaya (wife to Mr. Ishaya Ayuba) and her son, Allabarmu around 8:00pm, dated 31st May 2021 in Rade village.

6. The kidnap of two men; one
Mr. Barde Ibrahim and one Mr. Danta Samuel in Gimi village, dated 1st June 2021, around 8:00pm

7. A gunshot at one Mr. Dauda Agomo and currently receiving medical attention in an hospital.

Gentlemen of the Press, kindly note that these horrendous incidents are never decreasing, but daily on the increase.

Therefore, we the youths of Lemoro Nation do  strongly write to inform the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Plateau State Government, and the world at large of the plight of our people in the wake of banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities being orchestrated which started in the year 2020, and keeps rising in persistence and momentum; with dire unquantifiable social, physical, economic and environmental consequences trailing each episode.

We wish to clearly emphasise here that Lemoro people have lived peacefully in their communities with different ethnic groups who came into our land as settlers, without any rancour or acrimony, and therefore we do not deserve any antagonism either from within or from external aggressors.

It is on this note that the Lemoro National Youth Movement wishes to plead and request the swift intervention of:
1. Plateau State Government in rapidly ensuring immediate rescue of the kidnapped persons, and the total footing of the medical bills of Mr. Dauda Agomo who was shot by the criminals, and is currently hospitalised.

2. The Plateau State Government in the immediate provision of telecommunications masts in our villages to facilitate communications.

3. The Federal Government in  setting up police outposts in our villages, and deployment of intelligence and criminal surveillance personnel to track down perpetrators of these evil acts.

4. The media to air our plight to the world for speedy coverage to prevent future occurrence.

5. We also call on the international community and all well-meaning global entities to identify with us at this trying moment, and help  Lemoro people in the areas of physical security, human security, environmental surveillance and intelligence, and the like.

6. We equally call on all the ethnic nationalities on the Plateau to identify with us in this our time of need.

7. We call on the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to restrategise the nation’s security apparatus for effective delivery for the protection of lives and properties of not only the Lemoro nation, but indeed all Nigerians.

No doubt, in the spirit of love and  oneness, an injury to one is an injury to all.

The Lemoro man is known for farming not for himself but in commercial quantity to also feed the nation and add to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product.

In conclusion, we thank God for His mercy upon us, and we thank you for your time in going through our clarion call, and agreeing to come to our aid.

Thank you.
