As the International Day of the Girl Child is commemorated today globally, the Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Hon. Simon Mwadkwon Ph.D has called for greater attention especially in the aspect of capacity building to be accorded the Girls’ population locally and globally.
The Federal Lawmaker said observation of the International Day declared by the United Nations seek to supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage.
He said the 2021 theme “Digital Generation, Our Generation” is timely considering the transformational advancements the digital era has brought globally and urged Girls to take advantage of the opportunities Information and Communication Technology (ICT) presents.
Nigeria as a Nation must leave no stone unturned to ensure girls can reap the benefits of the technological revolution that has reshaped the life of every human being.
“Girls are our future Mothers and builders of our society, it is therefore imperative to empower and mentor them for the roles of Nation building”
“Girls are persons with multidimensional talents, gifts and abilities that must be harnessed in order to achieve their full potentials at appreciable levels” he said.
The Lawmaker decried all forms of discriminations against Girls and called for the discontinuation.
He harped on the need to support Girls and give them the opportunities to contribute their quota to national development.
He hinted that as a Lawmaker, he will continue to give greater attention to capacity building of Girls and make laws that will protect, promote and impact them significantly.
He wished them a successful celebration and admonished them to give attention to self development and living a life of purpose.
