Hon. Yusuf Gagdi Emerges APC Candidate for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency

The Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Navy, Adamu Yusuf Gagdi, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The result of the exercise, which was conducted on Saturday, May 16, 2026, was officially declared by the Returning Officer, Barr. Nandom Andrew Kura, following the completion of the collation process.

Announcing the outcome of the polls, Barr. Nandom disclosed that Rt. Hon. Yusuf Gagdi polled 29,207 votes out of the total 31,150 votes cast across the constituency.

He stated that the election was successfully conducted across the 36 federal wards covering Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam Local Government Areas despite initial challenges caused by the late arrival of officials and electoral materials. He commended party members for their peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.

Barr. Nandom, however, condemned the earlier declaration of separate results by unauthorized persons, describing those involved as impostors.

According to him, “Anybody that announced results for the APC Primaries for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency other than my humble self is an impostor. The person impersonated me, and I have every right to take legal action because such action smeared my reputation.”

Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primaries in Plateau State, Stella Okotete, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries and dismissed earlier declarations made by unauthorized individuals.

She maintained that Barr. Nandom Andrew Kura remained the duly appointed Returning Officer for the constituency and the only individual empowered to officially announce the results.

Reacting to his victory, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi applauded what he described as the credibility and integrity of the electoral process that produced him as the party’s candidate.

He noted that the elections were peacefully conducted across all the 36 wards in Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam Local Government Areas and faulted the earlier results released by unauthorized persons.

“If the Electoral Committee Chairman for the National Assembly Primaries denied knowing the person who earlier made the declaration of the results, then that declaration is fake. You cannot announce results for an election you didn’t conduct nor were you assigned the role of returning officer,” he stated.

The lawmaker added that despite the provocation caused by the release of the alleged fake results, he and his supporters remained calm, peaceful and law-abiding throughout the process.

He appreciated members of the APC in the constituency for finding him worthy of the party’s ticket and pledged not to disappoint them if returned to the Green Chamber.

He also commended the party leadership for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible primary election.
