The Governor of Plateau State has charged the church to accord greater attention to educating and re-educating the people particularly the youth population on the concept of love and sacrifice as taught by Jesus Christ.
He decried the misinformation and brainwashing of our youth towards hatred rather than love and tolerance.
“We must rise up and confront this negative development which is very disturbing especially when we see the level of wickedness and division among people of various denominations or faiths. We must teach our children love by profession and practicing love wherever we find ourselves. This we must do quickly to save our nation from disintegrating because of ethno-religious sentiments” he said.
Gov. Lalong made these disclosures at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Annual Conference of Chaplains of the 36 Government Houses which held at the Government House Chapel, Rayfield Jos.
The Government commended the Chaplains for the choice of Plateau State for the Conference.
Gov. Lalong commended them for setting aside time to pray for Nigeria and reminded them that as religious leaders, they have enormous responsibility to ensure that the society moves forward.
“The situation where some religious leaders have resorted to propagation of hate speech and spread of fake information must be avoided for the interest of the peace and unity of the country”
“Religious leaders cannot afford to politicize the pulpit and make it a platform for attacks which end up weakening the Church and bringing the Body of Christ to disrepute”
“Similarly, the clergy particularly those of you who serve as Chaplains in Government Houses must shun sycophancy and the attempt to bury the truth for monetary or other gains” “This type of behaviour ends up putting the society in more danger because those in leadership positions are denied the truth that is needed to guide them in serving the people. At all times, Jesus Christ must be our model” he harped.
The Guest Preacher at the event, Rev. Yakubu Pam Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) urged politicians to connect to God as we approach the 2023 general elections to avoid dragging the country to the mud.
He noted that unless our politicians realize the importance of connecting to God, the country will continue to drift to the precipice.
Speaking on “The increase of His Peace” disclosed that “in Nigeria and the world over there seems to be crises rocking the nations and even in the church and the family due to the absence of Peace”
Reading from the books of Isaiah 9:7-10; Mark 4:35-38 and Psalms 23:1-5, he noted that Christ’s Government was established on Peace that lives for all eternity.
Special prayers were made for the State, Nation and the event also featured song ministrations.
