The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on the people of Plateau State to embrace hope and optimism in 2026, urging them to take positive and productive actions that will further strengthen peace, unity, and sustainable development across the state.
The Governor expressed profound gratitude to the Almighty God for His grace, protection, and preservation of Plateau State over the years. He emphasized the need for collective reflection, evaluation, and learning from past challenges, stressing his administration’s firm commitment to making decisive choices aimed at correcting past shortcomings and securing a better future anchored on purposeful and impactful leadership.
Governor Mutfwang made these remarks on Sunday while worshipping with congregants at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church, Jos. He reminded Christians of God’s unfailing love for humanity, noting that His grace remains sufficient to see the people through the year, provided they take tangible steps toward personal growth and collective progress.
“As we enter this year, let us do so with optimism and hope, trusting God that 2026 will be better than the previous year in all ramifications. I thank God for last year. Many times, we only hear about attacks, but we hardly speak about God’s mercies in preventing attacks. There were plans to ruin the Christmas celebrations, but God intervened,” the Governor stated.
While acknowledging the pockets of insecurity recorded in Buhum, Chugwi community of Vwang District, Bong village in Doemak District as well as Fan District of Jos South, Qua’an Pan and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and destruction of property.
He commiserated with the affected families, traditional rulers, and community leaders, calling for heightened vigilance and cooperation with security agencies. He assured the people that the government is working tirelessly to bring an end to such dastardly acts across the state.
“Indeed, if the Lord does not watch over a city, the watchman watches in vain. I want to assure you that God has been watching over Plateau State, and my prayer is that He will grant us enduring peace, such that the failures of last year will not be repeated in this year,” he added.
The Governor also expressed sympathy with farmers who invested heavily in land preparation and cultivation, only to suffer losses due to a crash in produce prices. He assured them that the state government is working on measures aimed at cushioning the effects of the losses and improving agricultural value chains to protect farmers’ livelihoods.
In his sermon, the guest preacher, Rev. Agom Magaji, who took his Bible reading from John 1:16–17 and titled his message “The Source of Grace,” explained that humanity continues to survive by the sufficiency of God’s grace. He noted that grace seeks out humanity even in lost situations, brings complete salvation, transforms lives, and never runs out.
Rev. Magaji emphasized that the salvation of mankind is solely by the grace of God, adding that the proper response to God’s grace is to believe in Christ, live a life of gratitude, humility, obedience, and render selfless service through grace.
