Hon. Simon Mwadkwon Ph.D Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency Plateau State was honoured as Peace Ambassador for the Operation Safe Haven Peace and Unity Football Tournament.
The Finals of the Chief of Defence Staff Peace and Unity Football Competition which held at the famous Rwang Pam Township Stadium Jos, Plateau State featured Barkin Ladi Boys and Riyom Boys with Barkin Ladi Boys emerging Winner of the Tournament.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, the Federal Lawmaker lauded the initiative by the Security Outfit saying sports remain vital tool for promoting unity and peace and must be given attention.
He congratulated the winner of the Football Tournament and the first runner up, all being teams from his Constituency for the discipline and skills displayed.
He expressed his readiness to sustain his Peace and Unity Football Tournament.
He appreciated Operation Safe Haven for finding him worthy of the award saying he will continue to do his best in sensitizing not only his constituents but other citizens to work towards the attainment of peace.
He commended the Military for their efforts in combatting insecurity and protecting the Nation’s territorial integrity and charged them to deploy more superior strategies in order to rid the Nation of criminal elements.
He admonished the public to furnish security agencies with information that will help them in securing the Nation.
“With all hands on deck a secured, safer and prosperous Nation is achievable” he concluded.
The Lawmaker also presented cash and medal to a winner of the Marathon.
The Executive Chairman of Kanke LGC, Hon. Henry Gotip was also awarded Peace Ambassador.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commander Operation Safe Haven who doubles as the General Commanding Officer 3-Division, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali said the Outfit will leverage on non-kinetic approaches to enhance civil-military relations.
He said sports play cardinal roles in fostering unity, peace and prosperity.
Chief of Defence Staff who was represented at the event by Naval Commodore Patrick Yekwe reassured the citizens of the commitment of the military to curb the insecurity bedevilling the Country.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of trophies, medals and cash to deserving teams.
