Coalition of Ethnic Youth Nationalities Plateau North Decries Deteriorating State of Insecurity

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE COALITION OF ETHNIC YOUTH NATIONALITIES PLATEAU NORTH ON THE DETERIORATING AND FRAGILE STATE OF PEACE IN PLATEAU NORTH

Our dear Plateau State has continued to bleed with no end in sight and our lives gradually becoming Hobbesian as rampaging bands of criminals have been let loose upon our people. The delicate balance of peace hitherto enjoyed in Plateau State, especially Plateau North has been ruptured once again with the gruesome murders and destruction of properties, on a war like scale. Thus, WE cannot fold our arms or keep mute and watch our State fall, we must, as patriots, say as well as do something!
First and foremost, we deeply sympathise with the bereaved and the thousands that have been rendered destitute in their own land, may the Almighty God console them and grant them comfort. Amen!!
As a Coalition, we heavily condemned the killing of innocent people, by people we make bolt to say, are not faceless or unknown, but are Fulani herdsmen who carry out their wicked act unabated and disturbingly, some very few kilometres away from the 3rd Armored Division of the Nigerian Army.
We, as other citizens, have watched with dismay, the sad tragedy of our government’s handling of the fragile peace with kid gloves, with a directive from the IGP we consider to be in bad faith. These ineffective measures have led to situations where even at government’s directives on curfew, Fulani herdsmen continue to unleash mayhem on us. We lost five people in Bassa under curfew hours & this has not abated till this day.
Fallacious allegations has been raised against us, but we find it less important to join issues here as we shall do that at the appropriate time.
In the words of Mahatma Ghandi, “an eye for an eye will make the world will go blind”. We are ready! Our lives have been threatened and we most defend ourselves!!
On a final note, we wish to use this medium to call on our youths to shown all acts of violence, but be prepared to resist with all strength and means any attempt on the breach of our fundamental rights to life and peaceful existence. We shall not be supplanted in our ancestral land by those who covet our land through conquest in an age where such has no place.
