The council chairman, Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau state, Dan Dul, said 10 persons have, in the past few days, died of cholera in the area.
The council chairman said the death toll in the past one week has risen to 10, with 48 new cases currently been treated.
According to Mr. Dul, the state epidemiologist and Plateau state House of Assembly committee on health had visited the clinic and affirmed that it was a cholera outbreak.
Mr. Dul made the disclosure in an interview with journalists in Jos on Thursday.
He said 48 people were hospitalized, while a few had been treated and discharged from the local primary healthcare.
Mr. Dul said the council equipped the Primary Health Care with drugs to effectively tackle the current health challenge.
He appealed to the people to observe good sanitation as a means of preventing further occurrence of the disease.
