ANAN Plateau Branch Commended for Promoting Professionalism, Excellence in Accounting Profession

The Plateau State Branch of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has been commended for promoting excellence, upholding professional standards and enhancing professionalism in the accounting profession.

The commendation was made by various Local Government Council officials during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Monthly Congress Meeting of ANAN Plateau State Branch, held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Yakubu Gowon Auditorium of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State.

Those who spoke at the event included the Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Council, Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun; Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Tyem; Deputy Chairman of Jos East Local Government Council, Hon. Yusuf Atsen; and representatives of other Local Government Council Chairmen.
They applauded ANAN for producing reputable accountants and for its sustained commitment to the continuous training and capacity development of its members.

The officials also pledged continued partnership with the Association, recognising the critical role of professional accountants in the effective management of resources and the development of various sectors of the economy.
They further assured that their respective councils would continue to implement policies and execute projects aimed at improving the living conditions of the people and delivering tangible dividends of democracy.

*Branch Chairman Commends Members*

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of ANAN Plateau State Branch, Dr. Anthony Musa Garba, FCNA, commended members of the Association for their unwavering support, commitment and financial contributions towards the growth and activities of the Branch.
Dr. Garba disclosed that the Branch had several programmes and activities in the pipeline designed to benefit members and further strengthen the Association.

He urged members to continue supporting the Branch executives in their efforts to build a more vibrant, progressive and professionally driven organisation.

*Branch Highlights Achievements*

Presenting the administration’s account of stewardship, the Secretary-General of the Branch, James Maktong, highlighted key achievements recorded since the present executives assumed office in February 2026, despite the challenges encountered.
He said the Branch had intensified its membership drive and continued to encourage fellowship investiture for eligible members.
According to him, the administration had also undertaken regular welfare visitations, improved the visibility of the Branch and organised impactful training programmes aimed at strengthening the professional capacity of members.

*Accountants’ Roundtable Magazine Unveiled*

A major highlight of the meeting was the unveiling of the Accountants’ Roundtable Magazine, a publication of the Research, Workshop and Publications Committee, headed by Dr. Emmanuel Idenyi Shaibu.
Unveiling the magazine, Dr. Ezekiel Daschen commended members of the committee for what he described as a commendable job, urging them to sustain the initiative and maintain the standard.

The Director-General of the Nigerian College of Accountancy, Dr. Friday Akpan, also applauded the initiative, stressing the importance of knowledge sharing and continuous professional development in achieving better results.
He noted that sustained capacity building remained critical to achieving improved professional performance and better institutional outcomes.

*Audited Financial Report Presented*

The meeting also featured the ratification of the appointment of external auditors, including consideration of their remuneration and tenure.
The audited financial statement of the Association for the year ended December 31, 2025, was presented by Martin Alfred, Managing Partner of Outwatch Auditors & Co.
Alfred stated that the financial report was prepared in compliance with applicable international standards.
He subsequently made recommendations aimed at strengthening the operations and financial management of the Branch.

*17 Council Chairmen Receive Awards*

Another major highlight of the event was the presentation of Awards of Excellence to the seventeen Local Government Council Chairmen in Plateau State.

Receiving the awards, the Chairmen expressed appreciation to ANAN Plateau State Branch, describing the recognition as an encouragement to do more in delivering the dividends of democracy, improving the welfare of citizens and transforming their respective Local Government Areas.

Plaques of Honour were also presented to Directors of Finance and Supplies across the Local Government Councils in recognition of their contributions to the accounting profession and public financial management.

The event also featured the introduction of new members, who were charged to uphold the ethics, standards and professional values of the accounting profession at all times.
