Amb. Melvin Ejeh Commends Youths for Peaceful Protest, Calls for Urgent Engagement to Address Issues Raised

The Executive Director of Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative (GOPRI), Amb. Melvin Ejeh has described the nationwide #ENDSARS protest as well thought and step in the right direction considering the brutality, harassment and Human Rights abuse meted on Citizens by the Nigerian Police Force Unit.

He commended the youths for ventilating their grievances on the ills bedevilling the Nation in peaceful manner and called on the Federal Government to immediately set machinery in place to address the issues being presented by the Protesters.
He said their demands are genuine and should be properly looked into.
Amb. Melvin frowned at the attacks and killings of peaceful protesters. He called for immediate investigation into all killings across the Country and the prosecution of those who perpetuated same to serve as deterrent to others.

He expressed disappointment on how a well thought of protest has been taken over in some cases by sponsored Hoodlums who are raging havoc, killing, destroying National Assets and Private Property.
He urged security agencies to deal decisively with all criminal elements who are taking advantage of the protest to commit their criminal activities.

“Even if the youths stop the protest now, their collective voice has been heard loud and clear, both nationally and Internationally” Amb. Melvin said.

He said the silence of President Buhari to the ongoing nationwide protest is not healthy.
“The President need to address the Nation” he said.

On insecurity, Amb. Melvin charged the citizens to provide security agencies the desired cooperation and supports to nip crime in the bud. He said security personnel are not spirit to be everywhere all the time, hence the need for the public to furnish them with reliable intelligence information. He urged the public not to provide cover to criminal elements instead report them for appropriate prosecution.
He said criminal elements exist in all tribes and religious, saying fighting them should be a collective goal.
He said a more peaceful, safer, secured and prosperous Nation is possible.
He commended Operation Safe Haven under the leadership of Maj. Gen. CC Okonkwo for its commitment to restoring peace and bringing crime rate to the barest minimum.

He called for more funding for the security agencies to assist them in fighting crime, maintaining law and order and protecting our territorial integrity.

He called for a holistic approach to peace building engagements to carry along people living at the grassroot.

He called on elected and appointed Leaders at all levels to entrench good governance for a better and stronger society.

He made these disclosure on “Angwa check” at Jay FM 101.9, an audience participatory programme.
