Determined to contribute to Plateau state’s rebirth, the Plateau Our Heritage revival initiative, POHri, has scheduled a one day seminar to sensitise indegenes on the way forward.
Stating this in an interview in Jos, the state capital, Chairman of the body, Hon. Alex Kwapnoe said the seminar will hold on Thursday, 31st March, 2022.
The non political body which is barely two years old and has members drawn from all strata of human endeavour has observed that matters relating to the growth of the state’s economy, political and even good governance are far from being achieved and with the proposed summit, it is counting to draw the attention of the government and people on the need to strategize and reposition the state on the path of progress; bearing in mind, the fact that it has what it takes to be viable economically and otherwise.
Hon. Kwapnoe observed that the state has in recent past, had to contend with some negativity as a result of general insecurity and that has left most communities at the receiving end based on judgements that are laced with prejudices and hate.
“The time to change these narratives is now. Let’s try and set the records straight for clarity purposes. Plateau and her citizens are law abiding, Nigerians from all over the federation have found a haven here because of our peaceful nature.
“We have accommodated all manner of people; being they foreigners or settlers, without any form of sentiments and it is our desire that we continue to respect humanity and in doing that, we can be reassured that lasting peace is achievable across Nigeria “, he maintained.
The Summit with the theme “Plateau State: Changing the Narratives – Our Stand” will hold under the Chairmanship of Gen. Jon Temlong, OON (Rtd).
Also, experts have been drawn from areas the state has comparative advantage; to talk on identified areas such as tourism, mining, culture, agriculture, politics and leadership, especially when Plateau used to be the voice of northern minorities and the middlebelt region of Nigeria.
Among the panelists, their topics and details are Patricia Manko Lar (Professor of Medical Microbiology, University of Jos. Vice President, West Africa Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA) under the fopic: Plateau: A State in Progress or Inertia?
To discuss Changing the narrative for sustainable revenue generation in Plateau State is Hon. Panshak Titus Yohanna Former Management committee Chairman Kanke LGC, Pioneer Branch Manager Sterling Bank Jos, Former Branch Manager Intercontinental bank Jos, Relationship Manager Public sector 3 Abuja, Chairman/CEO Panshak Concepts and Consult Limited Jos.
On Punishment of Crimes in Conflict Situations, a case study of Plateau State, will be Barr. Longpoe Hentuang Henry, Lecturer, Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies, University of Jos, is expected to be the driving force, While Building Economic Gains for Plateau State has Viktor Kuchili Lead Development Consultant, CCN Nigeria.
With these high calibre scholars and professionals, the summit is expected to produce a working document that would be beneficial to the government and people of the state, which is the aim of the POHri.
