Graduating students of Command Secondary School, Jos, have been charged to remain worthy ambassadors of their alma mater by upholding the values of integrity, discipline and responsible leadership as they embark on the next phase of their lives.
The Acting Commandant of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Evwiehor Best, gave the charge during the colourful 39th Graduation, Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the school’s Assembly Hall.
He described the ceremony as a celebration of hard work, resilience, character and the collective commitment to nurturing young minds for meaningful service to the nation.
According to him, Command Secondary School is not merely an institution for academic excellence but a place where integrity, leadership, discipline and responsibility are cultivated.
Congratulating the graduating students, Lt. Col. Best urged them to remain guided by the principles they had acquired during their years in the institution.
“As you step into a new chapter, let the values you have acquired here remain your compass,” he said.
The Acting Commandant also commended members of staff for their dedication to the academic and personal development of the students, while appreciating parents and guardians for their unwavering support and partnership throughout the students’ educational journey.
Delivering the keynote lecture titled “Preparing Future Leaders for an Artificial Intelligence-Driven World: Opportunities, Innovation and Responsible Citizenship,” Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu (Rtd.) challenged the graduating students to prepare for an AI-driven future by combining technological competence with ethical leadership, sound judgment and a commitment to serving humanity.
He emphasized that the future would belong not to those who merely understand Artificial Intelligence but to individuals who possess wisdom, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.
“The future will not be built by AI alone. It will be built by men and women of character who use AI with wisdom, integrity and a deep sense of responsibility. Machines may become more intelligent, but only people can become wise,” he stated.
Rear Admiral Nwatu encouraged the students to choose wisdom over convenience, integrity over popularity, service above self-interest and excellence over mediocrity, stressing that while Artificial Intelligence is transforming every sector of society, it must always be deployed to improve lives, strengthen the nation and advance humanity.
Representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Maxwell Dangana, the Special Guest of Honour, Brigadier General R.T. Apata, congratulated the graduating students on their outstanding achievements, describing their success as a reflection of determination, courage and intelligence.
He urged them to uphold the discipline, leadership and values instilled by the institution while continuing to pursue knowledge despite future challenges.
Brigadier General Apata also commended the teachers and administrators for producing students distinguished not only academically but also in character, urging the graduates to contribute positively to national development.
Speaking as the Father of the Day, Hon. Ziphion Chrysanthus Ziphion donated ₦1.2 million during the unveiling of the 2026 ComJos Star Year Book and encouraged the graduates to remain courageous and steadfast in the face of future challenges.
He expressed confidence that the solid educational foundation provided by the school would enable them to emerge as strategic leaders and solution providers in Nigeria and beyond.
Presenting the graduating class to the Special Guest of Honour, the Vice Principal (Academics), Senior School, Mrs. Mancha-Martins Judith Chundung, disclosed that the school graduated 176 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
She noted that the students had demonstrated remarkable academic excellence, resilience and determination throughout their years of study and were well prepared for future endeavours.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Head Boy Uzoma Ikechukwu Victor and Head Girl Chioma Rejoice Mbaji expressed appreciation to the Commandant, teachers and parents for their sacrifices, guidance and mentorship.
They pledged to remain worthy ambassadors of Command Secondary School wherever they find themselves, noting that the institution had equipped them with the knowledge, values and leadership skills required to succeed.
The colourful ceremony featured cultural dance performances, academic presentations, the official launch of the 2026 ComJos Star Year Book, and the presentation of awards to outstanding students and members of staff for academic excellence, leadership and dedicated service.
As part of efforts to promote character development, the Ejeh Idoga Humanity in Action Foundation presented the Kindness and Respect Award, with cash prizes of ₦250,000 each presented to two students recognised for exemplary character and positive conduct. In addition, the Foundation also presented ₦100,000 each to two other graduating students selected by other Students in recognition of their outstanding character and conduct during their time at the School.
The event attracted military Officers, Parents, Alumni, government Officials and other distinguished Guests, who celebrated the achievements of the graduating class while encouraging them to become responsible leaders in an increasingly technology-driven world.
