PIDAN Central Zone calls for combing of flashpoints infested by terrorists in the zone

The Plateau Initiative for the Development and Advancement of the Natives PIDAN Central Zone has called for the combing of flashpoints infested by terrorists especially in Kanam Local Government Area of the zone which have been under terrorists’ attacks in recent weeks. PIDAN made this call in a press statement signed by its chairman, Comr. Alpha John Dakwak and released on Sunday 15th March, 2026.

PIDAN’s call came as a result of the ambush of two patrol vehicles and the attack unleashed by armed terrorists leading to the death of no fewer than twenty members of the joint patrol team made up of men of the Nigerian army and local vigilantes. According to the statement the victims of the attack were out on routine patrol across Garga, Kyaram, Gyambau and adjoining communities before meeting their fatal death.

Full text of the press statement reads:

SERIAL ATTACKS IN KANAM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA: PIDAN CENTRAL ZONE’S CRY FOR PERMANENT SOLUTION.

Recently, Kanam Local Government Area has been a target for serial attacks by armed terrorists. It is becoming increasingly worrisome that these spades of attacks keep gaining grounds so much so that we fear the long term effects of the terrorists’ apparent plan to sack communities and render them desolate.

Our deepest fears are fueled by the seemingly superior power of the terrorists over our security system. Within a short space of time between a series of attacks that have occurred in recent weeks, we were once again greeted with the sad news of the gruesome murder of security operatives in Kanam which occurred around 4:00pm on Friday 13th March, 2026.

Information available to us revealed that this gruesome murder was perpetrated on the gallant men of the Nigerian army alongside members of local vigilantes whose patrol vehicles were ambushed and attacked in cold blood while they were out on routine patrol across Garga, Kyaram, Gyambau and adjoining communities. Our source revealed that over 20 security men lost their lives in a fierce gun battle with the terrorists; properties worth millions looted and cattle rustled.

With these indices, it is becoming clear that the terrorists have infested our communities and continue to advance their presence in many occupying border communities adjoining Bauchi and Taraba states for more than four years.

This trend is quite unfortunate and calls for a determined action to entrench its reversal. Governments at all levels must show the will power to stem this tide in the bud. All flashpoints should be thoroughly combed to cleanse our communities and completely flush out these criminal elements to ensure the permanent return of peace and tranquility in those areas.

We call for a humanitarian support for the people affected by these attacks. We also call for the close collaboration among border communities for a coordinated security network. The war against terrorism and armed banditry must not be lost under whatever guise. Let’s rise and put an end to the carnage.

E-signed:

Comr. Alpha John Dakwak

Chairman PIDAN Central Zone
