The Berom Nation has been lauded for preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage and the initiation of the Wurom Legacy Foundation aimed at empowering the People and making them economically stable.
The encomiums were credited to the Berom Nation by Guests at the Nzem Berom, one of the biggest cultural Festival in Nigeria which held on Friday 17th May, 2024 at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
The glamorous, historic and well attended event with the theme “The Future of the Berom Land: Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Reorientation” witnessed the display of the Berom rich cultural heritage by the Berom across the length and breadth of the World.
The Chief Host Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba CRF in his speech appreciated all the invited Guests for honouring to be part of the annual Nzem Berom and to identify with him as he clocked 15 Years on the throne.
The Paramount Ruler emphasized on the need to preserve the culture from going into extinction.
According to him “A People without a culture, without traditions are a lost People.
“We have deliberately continued to host this cultural festival to remind our detractors and people who think they can intimidate us and the people of Plateau State by their dastardly act of killings and their desire to takeover our lands, by the grace of God Almighty, we shall not be vanquished”
He asserted that the Berom people have remained resilient and will continue to protect the land divinely and freely given to them by God against any form of intimidation.
The revered Royal Father appealed to government to ensure the peaceful existence of the People and admonished the people to listen, be law-abiding and obedient to government and other constituted authorities so that peace will reign in the State.
He highlighted the strides being taken by the present administration in the State to improve the living standard of the People of the State which he said are commendable.
He assured the government of the commitment of the Traditional Council towards progressive collaboration that will aid in addressing the numerous challenges and foster greater peace.
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang in his remarks emphasized the need for ethnic unity which he said will foster unity. He applauded the Berom Nation for its peace efforts.
He praised the Gbong Gwom Jos on his 15th Anniversary on the throne and his remarkable achievements.
The Governor donated the sum of Ten Million Naira to the Wurom Legacy Trust Foundation for the training of 150 youths and young women in skills acquisition to reduce unemployment and address restiveness.
He spoke on the plan by his administration for a Plateau cultural Day. He also highlighted his plan to ensure that internally displaced persons in the State are resettled and adequate security provided in the hinterlands.
Senator Diket Plang who represented the Nigeria’s Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio said the 15 Years of the Gbong Gwom Jos brought about significant unity and progress in Plateau State and Middle Belt in general. He lauded the patriotic disposition of the Gbong Gwom Jos and the industrious nature of the Berom.
Deputy Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency Manasseh Daniel Jatau congratulated the Berom Nation and commended them for preserving their rich cultural heritage. He admonished the People to embrace agriculture to address hunger and poverty.
Former Governor of Plateau State and elder Statesman, Sen. Jonah Jang, CON urged the People to make God their priority.
Chief Launcher and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (Rtd) stressed the need for unity and peaceful coexistence.
Former Senate Minority Leader and Chairman of the 2024 Nzem Berom Main Planning Committee, Senator Simon Mwadkwon maintained that the Wurom Legacy Trust Foundation is aimed at bettering the lives of the People, impact the Berom Nation, Plateau State and Nigeria.
Key highlights of the event were cultural performances by cultural dance troops, Music Artistes, 15th Year Anniversary Thanksgiving for the Gbong Gwom Jos and other side attractions.
The event climaxed with donations by illustrious Sons/daughters, groups, businesses and other invited Guests to the Wurom Legacy Trust Foundation.
