PDP Accident Victims Management Committee Gives Succor to Victims and Families

The Accident Victims Management Committee constituted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), chaired by Prof. Shedrack Best following the involvement of some Members of the Party in Motor accidents on 10th January and 14th January, 2023 have taken delivery of relief materials, scholarships and financial assistance to Survivors and Families of the deceased. The presentation took place on Tuesday 8th March, 2023 at Central Football Field Ampang West in Mangu LGA, Plateau State.

While making the presentation, Prof. Best empathized with those involved in the accidents and the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. He said the Committee was inaugurated to mainly utilize existing funds to manage the accident victims, to identify and document victims as well as their next-of-kin, to develop medical reports and to ascertain medical expenses and make funds available towards offsetting them as well as provide restorative and supportive services to the victims. He said though the event is one with mixed feelings pointing out that the deceased will always be remembered with pains and sadness as “heroes of democracy” who paid the supreme price while contributing their quota to democratic growth and trying to ensure the entrenchment of good governance. He appreciated God for sparing the lives of those involved in the two accidents who were receiving medical attention after the ugly event but have all been discharged, now in relatively stable condition medically and reunited with their families.

He appreciated the Presidential Candidate of the PDP Alh. Atiku Abubakar who donated Thirty million naira, National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu for donating ten million naira, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang the PDP Governorship Candidate who donated over four million naira and Dr. Chris Kwaja who donated a hundred thousand Naira. He said being mindful of the agrarian nature of Ampang West where most of the victims are from, the committee decided to give out fertilizers to all the victims, educational scholarship to the deceased who left behind kids and assisting their family Members. He disclosed that the committee has facilitated the opening of bank accounts for the orphans where part of the cash donations will be paid into and those of school age will have their school fees, uniform costs, cost of books and other necessities paid in advance to ensure the security of their education. Families of those who died as singles will also receive the funds while maternity items required by two widows for delivery and comfort of the coming babies were procured accordingly.

An emotional Barr. Caleb Mutfwang in his remark sympathized with those who lost their loved and prayed God to perfect the health condition of those injured. He promised to assist the best way possible to reduce their sufferings. He urged spirited individuals to assist those involved and families of the deceased. He appreciated the Families of the victims and community for their understanding all through the trying moments and said God will wipe away their tears. He appealed to those still grieving to open their hearts for God to grant them the comfort of the spirit. According to him, the future of those still alive must be looked out for and not allow them to suffer saying what is being given is a mere token to assist them. He commended the committee for a meticulous job and all those who donated to cater for the victims.

The Owner of the truck involved in the accident and the Disc Jockey “DJ” were also not left out as they were offered cheques to reduce their losses.

Da Pius Mutla a community Leader appreciated the gesture and all the supports being provided.

Yakubu Progress one of the accident Victims and Chinplang Panmum who lost her husband in the accident appreciated those who came through for them with assistance and prayed God to open more doors.
