BARBARIC ATTACKS ON CROPS, A SINCERE INVITATION TO FOOD CRISIS.

Nigeria is hastily fulfilling all the criteria to qualify it to meet the standard of a failed state.

Kidnapping is no longer new nor news, cattle rustling is neither new nor news, killing of innocent citizens on daily basis is neither new nor news, and now human beings who survive on food are now destroying food crops that are about maturing stage, what madness is this?

A failed state is that where there is no security, everyone is on his own and for himself, a failed state is that where being lawful is abnormal and being lawless has become the norm, a failed state is that where hunger reigns supreme and inflation is at the roof top of the economy, these are some of the indices of a failed state which Nigeria has attained few years ago and is struggling for front seat in the comity of failed states.

The lawless situation has taken an animalistic dimension where people now vent their anger on crops that are on the farm.

The disturbing pictures that are currently on circulation on social media platforms these days leaves me with option but to believe those who insinuate that Nigeria will collapse on the laps of President Muhammadu Buhari though some are saying that it has already collapsed.

Some about two weeks ago, the revered and fiery priest, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah spoke on an international platform, objectively narrating all the ills that are bedeviling Nigeria and the next thing followed was criticisms even from the highest quarters in the land.

I must commend some individuals, groups, and organisations I saw few days ago putting smiles on the faces of some poor farmers whose farms were barbarically destroyed.

It was quite touching seeing how the recipients received the gifts, this act of giving at the time of dare need should be encouraged by all.

I have also read excuses given in some quarters that the farms that were destroyed, are closed to security forces and that warnings have been issued before now. But what readily comes to mind is that, where were the security personnel when such lands were cultivated and planted?

In his usual manner, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has come out to condemn in strong terms with a matching order for security forces to fish out the perpetrators, but few days after, no one gets to hear anything about it anymore and like many cases before it, it has gone with the wind.

The irony of it all is that, the same persons who destroyed these crops are the ones that need it most, because this act will further complicate the food crisis in the country and the highly placed politicians have looted enough to import food while the destroyers and other innocent citizens will pay the price through their noses.

The federal government must take urgent steps to close the gap of the impending danger of food crisis before.

Like I always say, a stich in time saves nine.
