OPEN LETTER TO ALL DELEGATES PARTICIPATING IN THE FORTHCOMING 2023 PRIMARY ELECTIONS OF THE POLITICAL PARTIES IN NIGERIA

Dear Delegates,
Dear Children of delegates,
Dear Relations and Neighbors and Friends of Delegates,

Plato’s quote “one of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors” is as true in our political life as it were ever anywhere. This is not about the president, nor is it a mockery of the numerous professors and PhD holders we now have in almost every village in Nigeria. It is about the reality that political participation holds the potential solution to the many ills in our society, especially one that relates to public policy.

Apoliticism is apathy or antipathy towards all political affiliations. A person may be described as apolitical if they are not interested or they remain uninvolved in politics. Being apolitical can also refer to situations in which people take an unbiased position in regard to political matters. This is no time to not be interested in the political life of our country.

Political participation includes a broad range of activities through which people develop and express their opinions on the world and how it is governed, and try to take part in and shape the decisions that affect their lives.

Most people, however, pay little attention to politics; when they vote, if they vote at all, they do so irrationally and for contradictory reasons. This is why the process leading to the emergence of the various candidates that will stand on different platforms for election in 2023 matters to all of us now. No matter your desire and wishes and passion to see a better Nigeria, you’re yet to start if the political party primaries does not interest you.

The various primaries of the different political parties across Nigeria will commence in few week(s) time. We will be counting on you (the Delegates) and those around you to make the right choices as you, on behalf of Nigerians participate in one of the most important political process that will determine the different candidates to stand for election in the different elective offices. This is a noble task before you and you must do it with all sense of responsibility, diligence, patriotism and in good faith, not giving in to unnecessary pressure and inducements with financial benefits that only offers momentary satisfaction.

The choices you make in the different political platforms you represent are going to have lasting effect(s) on the entire population as well as on the generation unborn. You are responsible for all of us waiting to see who made it as flag bearers of their respective parties for the office of the president, governor and the various States’ and Federal Houses of Assemblies/Representatives.

Take this piece of advice as a clarion call; you have a simple task of voting in the next president, governor and members of the legislature, two things are involved: either way you chose, there are consequences. Chose to harken to the voice of reason by voting for the most honest, most people friendly and most visionary aspirant to the best of your knowledge or ignore the voice of reason and vote against conscience, vote for the immediate gratification. You will live to either appreciate your actions and choices when at the end of the day Nigerians have the best hands or live to regret when at the end of the day the least of us get to be the flag bearer waiting to take up the job for which they are seeking to be employed to do for the next 4years.

As you go to vote, think of the current realities of our country and states, think of the future of Nigeria and your various state as the case may be; think of your children, friends and family and think of the possible consequences of your actions. We are all counting on you to do the right thing.

To the leadership of the political parties, may you not allow your personal interest stand in the way of the process that will provide for Nigeria the next set of leaders that are equal to the task of leading the nation in the right direction. May you be fair, objective and responsible in every action you’ll take in the forthcoming primary elections.

To the Nigerian populace, go get your permanent voters card (PVCs). The next four years will depend on what you do with your vote. It is easier to hold public officials accountable and to demand they play by the rules when you participate in the process that brought them into their respective offices.

The future is now. The future is here.
God bless Nigeria. God bless you as you go forth to participate in the most important electioneering process in connection with the 2023 General Elections.

We are also counting on your friends and family to speak to your conscience and be part of the reason why you chose wisely and responsibly.
