Jos – In line with the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC vision of giving back to the country, Corps medical personnel have offered free consultation and dispense drugs to residents of Miango in Bassa local government area of Plateau State.
The personnel who gave health talks to over 1, 000 rural dwellers also provided appropriate referrals where necessary so that the patients could get adequate treatment and medication for their ailments.
Addressing the community members at the event held at the Chinye LEA Primary School, Miango, the Plateau State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akin-Moses said the gesture is the NYSC way of trying to ensure healthcare and health education reach the grassroots.
According to her, “This is the NYSC Health Initiative Programme for rural dwellers which ensure that NYSC reaches out to the host community. This is a contribution to national development, it started two years ago and this is the 4th edition and not limited to today but ongoing.
“During the programme that is aimed at taking healthcare delivery to the doorstep of the people in rural communities, they will be sensitized on disease prevention, there will be provision of First Aid services, monitoring of cases and provision of appropriate referrals where necessary.”
However, the Secretary of Bassa local government area, John Tanko, District Head of Miango, Chief Daniel Chega and Miango Youths’ Chairman, Gaius Ogoh expressed delight for the gesture pointing out that many are sick in the community but could not access healthcare as a result of ignorance and lack.
