MINISTER DALUNG CHARGED STATES TO INVEST 10% OF THEIR BUDGET IN SPORTS AS HOCKEY SUPER LEAGUE CLOSED

The Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung had charged that states in Nigeria should invest 10% of their budgetary allocations to sports, he made this known after the final encounter of the National Hockey Super League between Niger Flickers and Kada stars of Kaduna.

Barrister Dalung, in a statement confirmed that Federal government spends about 85% of all the sporting activities in the country, he said if only states can contribute 10% that will go a long way in keeping the youth off the street from crimes and vices.

The Minister stressed out that the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports will do everything possible to support sports federation in the country towards actualizing there goal. He urged the Hockey Federation to come up with early preparation towards Nigeria’s hosting of the African Club Championship.

In his submission, the President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, Senator Abdul Ningi affirmed that the federation had attained the third position in the African continental level and had been ranked grade “E” Federation among the sports federation in the country by the Federal Sports Ministry. He congratulated the Kada stars and Niger Flickers for fierce competition which ended in a penalty shoot out in favor of Kada stars.

Similarly, Niger State Commissioner of Sports Development, Honourable Duza Babur thanked the Honourable Minister and the Hockey federation and promised that the Ministry will go to the drawing board to make necessary readjustments and corrections in order to come up victorious in the next league.

The 2018 Nigeria Hockey Super League final was bitterly contested by Niger Flickers and Kada stars of Kaduna which ended in a penalty in favor of Kada stars by 2 to 1.

Meanwhile, Team Niger had won Bronze Medal at the Just Concluded 2018 Second Golden Star National Badminton Championship at Katsina State.
