These gentlemen have certain things in common.
They were both elected by their constituents to represent them at the state house of Assembly.
Both were elected under the umbrella of the PDP
Both men were elected between the period of 1999-2007
Both men rose to become principal officers……matter of fact Speakers of the house.
Both men are from the Southern zone.
Major difference?
* Hon. George Daika was speaker of plateau state house of Assembly who used his influence & position to impact positively in the lives of his constituents.
* Daika influenced & lobbied for appointments for his constituents both in the state & federal civil service & also within the private sector.
* Daika helped ease the suffering of his people by sinking boreholes & other useful amenities.
* Daika successfully held his position as the speaker until his tenure ran it’s full course.
* Daika was NEVER invited, accused or even arrested by any antigraft agency.
* Daika further contested for & was elected to represent his people at the federal House of Representatives where he served meritoriously.
Simon Bako Lalong.
* Lalong was speaker of the house of Assembly.
* Under his watch, workers were retrenched from service which is the first time such was happening in the state.
* As a speaker of the House, Lalong played an active role in the looting that characterized the government as of that time.
* Lalong looked the other way & even protected the government in what could be described as the darkest days in the history of the state. These days can only be compared to what we are having today.
* Lalong as speaker was the first in the history of plateau & the only speaker to have been impeached on account of money laundry & financial misappropriation. All thanks to the hero of the people Michael Dapialoong.
* Lalong spent a good deal of his time as a regular customer of the EFCC & he still has corruption/ money laundry files with the anti graft agency.
* Lalong could not muster the courage to run for office since he was impeached until in 2015 when he was elected as governor & people like me campaigned, voted for & defended his votes.
In conclusion, there is no bases for comparing Gov. Simon Lalong & Hon George Daika in terms of integrity, competence & capacity.
