The University of Jos has officially announced the results of the 2025/2026 Student Union Government (SUG) elections. Under the electoral chairmanship of Professor Chris Piwuna, Dean of Student Affairs, and the presiding officer prof. Victor pam. The exercise concluded with the emergence of a new executive council to lead the student body for the upcoming academic session.
In one of the most competitive races in recent history, Younglan Talyoung Tongpus was declared President-elect. Tongpus secured a total of 1,286 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Mwolpun Pokyes Samuel, who garnered 1,277 votes—a slim margin of just 9 votes. Tile Solomon Aondosoo finished third with 61 votes.
viewpointNigeria news gathered that, Younglan Talyoung is a veterinary medical student, community development advocate, and award-winning spoken word artist based in Jos, Plateau State. He is known for using performance poetry to address social justice, governance, unity, and human values, while also maintaining a strong record of student leadership and community service.
He hails from Tal in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State and was raised in Tudun Wada, Jos, Jos North LGA
Younglan has held several leadership roles, including Senator in the University of Jos Student Union Government, Director of Socials for the National Association of Tal Students, Public Relations Officer and Project Manager with the International Veterinary Students’ Association.
Beyond leadership, he is an active voice in Nigeria’s spoken word and literary scene. His poetry challenges social issues and encourages dialogue on governance, security, unity, and youth responsibility. He is a recipient of the JOGAMA Award and an alumnus of the Ba da Murya Fellowship and the Policy, Advocacy, and Leadership Fellowship.
He has performed at major literary events across Nigeria, including LIPFest, ALITFEST, Kapfest, HIASFEST Minna, and the Benue Book and Art Festival.
