Today, in a patriotic move, the PDP national chairman once more urgently called on President Buhari to resign. This is on account of the on going corruption investigations being carried out on the NDDC, MIC, NEDC, NSITF, EFCC and other federal agencies under his very watch. Apparently, Buhari’s party people are allegedly having a field day, a free for all, ‘chopping’ Nigerians’ billions of naira, unhindered.
Thus, it became necessary for the PDP national chair to make this declaration because, as he said, “corruption has become a way of life among Nigerians while Buhari plays the ostrich.”
No doubt, ordinary Nigerians who have become more and more pauprised because of this government’s unfettered corruption franchise, the human rights community, even dispassionate members of Buhari’s APC and the international community, attest to the truth of this bitter assertion by the PDP national chair that the Buhari government has become one of the most corrupt in Nigeria’s annals.
Moreover, there are lots and lots of other existential problems confronting Nigeria today that the Buhari government has woefully failed to address. Challenges that are also threatening the very being of Nigeria due to political, religious, regional and personal expediencies.
For instance, the sad and unprecedented pictures of our naked Southern Kaduna mothers weeping and protesting the continued killings of their innocent people is one of the poignant testimonies about the Buhari government’s failure to live up to its main constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of citizens. Of course, unfortunately, there’s no respite in sight for our mother’s sorrows.
Ironically, even Buhari’s home state of Katsina has not been spared this reign of terror. Armed bandits have taken control and become overlords throughout. Likewise large swathes of Zamfara, Kebbi, etc.
What more evidence do we need to show that Buhari has totally lost control of the affairs of state and governance and should, therefore, resign in accordance with democratic, international and humane best practices?
Honestly, if Buhari, the ostrich, doesn’t resign now, all of us Nigerians should be prepared to continue experiencing more and more corruption from his government, the continual massacres of innocent Nigerians not only in Southern Kaduna, the Middle Belt, the north west and rising Boko Haram’s dare devilry but a pervasive state of lawlessness and insecurity all over Nigeria.
This should be a clarion call to all Nigerians of good conscience, across all religions, ethnic and party lines, to call the attention of the Buhari government to accept it’s failures and resign.
If not, we may not live to tell the story of the terrible consequences that will surely befall our future generations because we failed to tell the truth when it mattered most – due to our political, tribal, religious sentiments.
It should be kindly noted that this is not the first time this writer is calling on the lame duck President Buhari to resign.
