As the World Teachers’ Day, a global event launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994 is commemorated today, the Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Rep. Simon Mwadkwon Ph.D has applauded Teachers in his Constituency, Plateau State, Nigeria and the World at large over what he termed their “sacrificial and modest contributions” to National development and building a virile society and people.
According to the Federal Lawmaker, the day is set aside with special focus on appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.
Dr. Mwadkwon acknowledges the immense contributions of Teachers to education and appreciates their role and importance for the development of students and society.
With the 2021 World Teachers’ Day theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”, the Lawmaker admonished Teachers to serve diligently and meritoriously in order to transform lives and the society.
“Teachers have continued to demonstrate total commitment, diligence and industrious disposition even in the crucial stage of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, this is commendable”
“What is pathetic is their welfare packages and working condition which must be reviewed and improved as indication of appreciating their efforts and contributions to Nation building through human capital development”
“I call on government at all levels and owners of Schools to revisit the Welfare package of teachers for better improvement as well as their working conditions so they can offer their best” he hinted.
He said as an Academic and Legislator, he will continue to make laws that will have significant impact on the Teachers, improve their welfare and working conditions.
