Women Day: Supporting the Right of Women in Politics

The International women day celebration took a new turn as women of substance converged at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja to mark the day in a grand style.

Speaking during the historic event, Minister of women affairs and social development Dame Pauline Tallen noted that women are key player in the political arena of any developed world.


Tallen stressed the importance of women in the political history of Nigeria noting that the time has come for all women to rise to the occasion of fairness ,justice and equal right of women.

According to her, women have demonstrated quality leadership style in the growth of Democracy looking at the critical sectors of our economy, agriculture and the support for the girl child hence the need for more synergy in order to make more different in the history of the moment.

The Minister noted that women have the right to total inclusive participation
recognizing the struggle of women in the 19 century to press home their demand of equal sharing heading with Aba women riots which indicates that the struggle yielded grate results and more would soon be in place , she added.

On her part, United Nation representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms Comfort Lamptey Congratulated women to have come this this far dispute the marginalization challenges face in every sector remain a pivotal to the development of our grate Nation.

Mrs Lamptey said women must ensure zero tolerance to gender responsive stereotype.

In a keynote address, Wenny Kusuma Country Representative for UN said today’s policy dialogue must be sustained and ensure women are part of every critical decision taking been stakeholders in their political history.
Kusuma condemned social injustice against vulnerable women and children and equally frowns at the growing rate of insecurity ranging from kidnapping to banditry which mostly their target victims are women and children.
Other Dignitaries who spoke during the historic event were Prof Senator Same Nora Dadu, Mrs Antonia Ekwa, Mr Edward Kalou among others.
High point at the event were goodwill messages from different group and societies in solidarity for women right to politics without sentiment and discrimination.
