WHO EXACTLY IS THE LIAR?

By Faith Daniel, Jos

I have watched and observe as events unfold in our country for the past few weeks, and I begin to ask myself who is the liar? The government or the people? I still remember during covid-19 pandemic, states coming to claim how much they have spent on palliatives in order to help the citizens alleviate the hardship occasioned by the pandemic. But it’s surprising that what is meant for the masses is in a place called “warehouse where it is getting spoilt. why does the so called government allow the masses to suffer in the midst of plenty?
I remember back then; I was taught by my government teacher that ” Nigeria is practicing Democracy as our system of Governance. And Democracy according to Abraham Lincoln is government is, government for the people, by the people and of the people” but believe me, the concept of this beautiful system of governance has been tweaked to serve the interest of the political class in our country.
It is ironical, how these people look innocent and worried when looking for votes only to turn dictators after election. During the 2015 elections campaigns, some of them even shed tears and promised to give Nigerians a positive change if elected, but here we are in 2020, and I ask; is this how they want to pay the people that voted them into power? Have they suddenly forgotten the promises they made?
With the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development confirming the distribution of palliatives to State governments for onward distribution to the poor and the vulnerable in the society and these palliatives pilled in warehouses for the past five months without reaching the people they are meant for, yet the State governments are denying hoarding the palliatives. Who is lying?

Lets look at this from moral and religious standpoints; assuming you as a commoner, have plenty food in your store and you see your neighbor wallowing in hunger, won’t you help your neighbor? Why then did the state governments decided to leave the food meant for the masses to get spoiled at the expenses of the hungry masses? Who are they leaving it for? Is it an inheritance? This is the citizen’s right because it was bought with the taxes they pay. Why denying them their rights? You are eating and you allow the masses to starve. This typifies the parable of Lazarus and the rich man in the Bible.
It is evident that the selfish tendencies of our political class has pushed the youths to wall, and the youths are gradually imbibing violent approach in breaching the social gap created by bad governance. it so laughable how some of these ruling class come from the slum, get into power and become power drunk forgetting that they were once in the slum. indeed, humility is known when one become rich not when one is poor.
On the issues of insecurity and killings in the country, it heartbreaking that our leaders and military are trying to sweep the Lekki shootings under the carpet. No commitment to bring the culprits to book, no apology or any sign of empathy from our leaders. How can one come out and say the video evidence of the shooting at Lekki toll gate, was doctored? Being an editor, I have consulted my senior colleagues who edit better than me to analyse and see the possibility of such evidence being a doctored one, but to the best of our knowledge the evidence is real. The sound and the video are perfectly synchronized; no doctored video can achieve such a masterclass perfection of synchronization. Giving the fact that the video was recorded real time, the ambience sound also perfectly complements the environment. Do we
How can I, as a citizen of a democratic nation, not have the right to carry the hair style I want? Cant wear the cloth I want because I will be embarrassed. I can’t dress and look good simply because I might be tagged as criminal by the uniform men. Why will I be stopped on the road and my phone will be scanned for no reason? So I don’t even have right to put things in my phone? really have leaders or we are leading ourselves? oh my generation at whose mercy are we are left at? Dear young ones we need to watch out because, Im afraid one day we will become slaves in our own land. The fight for freedom is now. We are not illiterates and we know our rights.
A country where the voice of the youths is being muffled, then there is a big problem. Where have we gone wrong? Its time to open our eyes and know what we are doing. We shouldn’t be turned to slave in our father’s land. God will see us through, because on our own we can’t fight this fight but it is a fight we must do to save the next generation from falling into the same pit. It’s time to end bad governance. This is not the Nigeria of our dream and it’s not the change we voted for. We will surely sing songs of victory very soon. leadership belongs to the youths who understand the dynamics of governance.
