The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has declared that the Plateau State Government is partnering with the Nigerian Army (NA) and other security agencies in the state to restore the glory of Plateau State as a land of peace and tourism. He made this known today 13 July 2023 while declaring closed the 3 Division Inter-Formations Warrant Officers and Senior Non-commissioned Officers Competition 2023.
The governor who was the special guest of honour at the event noted that his administration will continue to provide the needed support to security agencies to ensure Plateau State witness seamless peace for people to enjoy the dividends of democracy. He appreciated the troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN for roles played in stabilizing the state recently.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary on Security, Mr Stephen Pam, the governor said he cherished the NA’s tradition of conducting important training activities in form of competitions. This practice he revealed will enhance the spirit of sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork needed to accomplish military tasks.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division NA and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General AE Abubakar noted that the level of security challenges in the country and the world at large requires consistent training of personnel to ensure citizens are safe. He revealed that the competition was organized to train Warrant Officers and Senior Non-commissioned Officers as the closest leaders to troops in the field.
Represented by the Chief of Staff Headquarters 3 Division, Brigadier General David Kurmi, the GOC and Commander OPSH appreciated the Chief of Army Staff Major General TA Lagbaja for his support to the division. He charged the troops to remain resolute, committed and steadfast in discharging their constitutional roles. “Your professional conduct as a trained soldier is now needed more than ever before to surmount the contemporary security challenges,” he averred.
In his vote of thanks, the Commander 3 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Micheal Agi noted the highest levels of discipline, professional conduct and zeal displayed by the participants throughout the competition. He thanked the GOC and Commander OPSH for his guidance, support and providing the needed resources for the conduct of the competition.
Six units participated in the competition at the end of which, 3 Division Garrison emerged overall best and 23 Brigade Yola came second while 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi emerged third position.
Highlights of the closing ceremony were Tug of War Competition between the para-military security agencies on the Plateau and presentation of trophies to winning formations and individuals who distinguished themselves during the competition.
