Water Scarcity Hits Jos, as Electricity Supply to Water Treatment Plant Cut

Jos — Water scarcity has hit Jos, capital of Plateau State, following the disconnection of electricity supply to the main treatment plant in the state over accumulated bill owed Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).

Sources told ViewPointNigeria Trust that JEDC is owed over N120 million in the earlier months of the year, with the Plateau State Water Board (PSWB) still unable to clear the accumulated bill since then.

Spokesman of the board, Mr. Nangor Ndam declined to discuss the bill, but he confirmed that the Yakubu Gowon treatment plant at Ratt Dam in Bukuru area of Jos-South, which supplies major parts of the state capital has not treated and supplied water for over a week now.

“This is more than a week now since we last treated and supplied from the main treatment plant,” Ndam said, blaming the development on the disconnection by the electricity distribution company. “They came and disconnected supply to the treatment plant because o accumulated electricity bills.”
